39w, baby doesn’t move much at all anymore?

Hello ladies (long read but I need support/advice).
So I’m 39 weeks pregnant & for the last week or two I’ve noticed a drastic change within my babies pattern, she used to wake me up kicking, kick throughout the day & kick me at bedtime, recently this has not been the case.

on the 12th may I went in for CTG Monitoring as I noticed reduced movement, the results came back fine and she had a fair amount of movement which reassured me.
Yesterday I went into the hospital again as my midwife sent me up as she thought my waters broke (false alarm)
I again told them that her movement has reduced even more than last time to the point I barely feel her AT ALL.
They again put me on another CTG monitoring and it came back fine again? Which I don’t understand as I literally felt like 2 movements throughout the whole 20 minutes of monitoring…
They then sent me for a ultrasound scan as they needed to check everything was okay with baby, they said her growth is spot on, my amniotic fluid is completely normal & my placenta is very healthy and getting everything she needs, including a healthy heartbeat… they told me they don’t need to keep me watched under their care now for reduced movement as she is healthy & fine…
there is no explanation to why she has reduced her movements, they also told me it was a huge myth that babies cannot move much at this stage because they don’t have much room..
Now I’m crazily anxious because what if they have missed something, what if something happens and I miss it myself? I don’t know what to do I’ve always been an anxious person but believe me when I’ve tried everything, lying on my left side for 2 hours, cold drinks, food. EVERYTHING, if she is healthy, why ain’t she moving?
I have a sweep booked for next week, fingers crossed she’s actually okay…

You are unnecessarily confusing the readers, E&L and your posts are unhelpful, hope that helps.

OP, please get seen and be firm - best of luck 💐

How so? I acknowledged one inaccuracy.

Everything else was clear and accurate - baby movements near term do not reduce but can feel different and this is due to lack of space.

The best person to determine what movements are normal is the mother & therefore she should continue to get checked out.

Can't see how anyone with normal comprehension would be confused.

Just keep going back. Each day you feel movements are reduced, go in. I had this with my first, went in at 32 weeks, all was fine with monitoring and follow up scan. Same again at 38+5 (with follow up scan the following day) and again at 39 weeks. Everything was fine each time, but they were very firm in insisting to keep going back if I wasn't happy with movements. After the 39 week attendance, they sent a dr down to review and suggested induction. I had to go back the following day, was in waiting for a bed for 2 nights but had regular monitoring. They did say that even if they booked induction for a weeks time, they wanted me in for daily monitoring anyway. They weren't worried, but knew I was and wanted me to trust my gut. As it happens, the day I had him, I was on the monitor and his heart rate dropped dramatically (cue Holby-type emergency button situation and lots of midwives rallying around me and pulling me about). Again all was fine, but their concern was that they wouldn't have known that had happened if I wasn't on the monitor. I had actually asked to be put on the monitor at that point, as I wasn't due to be monitored for another few hours. Again - gut instinct. Strangely enough within half an hour of that happening, a bed was available. Had my waters broken and 5hrs later he was here, perfectly healthy. Sorry, I know I've rambled. My point is please don't leave it, each time, just go in. They may just decide to try and get things started. Good luck!

I’m at wits end and am completely fed up of going back and forth for them to dismiss me

I think this is a little unfair. The two times you’ve been in for RFM you’ve had a CTG and then you’ve subsequently had an ultrasound. If these are normal, especially the ultrasound, then that is reassuring - that’s not the same as dismissing you. I agree with others, even if you live 16 miles away you need to go back in if movements are still reduced. If you aren’t happy with CTG reassurance then ask if you can be considered for induction now.

This. Go back everyday if you need to, always always better safe than sorry x

Baby movements DO NOT reduce at the end of pregnancy

No. But the type of movements absolutely do change, due to the lack of space. Thus can feel less because it's different & less obvious.

Here's the information: www2.hse.ie/pregnancy-birth/baby-development-pregnancy-stages/baby-development/babys-movements/

About half way down it explains the change in movements while reiterating (as I've said) that movements will still happen & the mother is the best judge of what is normal.

Even the link you’ve provided doesn’t say what you are saying. It actually specifies very clearly that about half of those who experience stillbirth report that babies movements slowed down before hand, not that this is normal, it can actually be a warning sign.

How is everything OP?

Namechangeforthis19 · 27/05/2023 22:28

Hey OP. Go back - however many times you feel necessary. And don’t be fobbed off by “Try ice cold water”. I read on here somewhere recently that we would also move if cold water was thrown on us, even if we were feeling well and this stayed with me. I don’t mean to worry you and I’m not saying your baby is unwell - just taking generally. Of course your baby is likely fine but always check, even if it just puts your mind at rest. A midwife once said, “There’s no point me doing a night shift if people don’t come in to get a check because they don’t want to come in again.” Sending best wishes for the end of your pregnancy. I have been in a few times for reduced movement and also for what I thought might have been waters or a mucus plug! I’d definitely ask for an induction too if you think this would help - especially if my mental health was suffering!

@EarringsandLipstick please stop posting. Someone’s baby might die because of your inaccurate rubbish

Lizzypet · 27/05/2023 22:55

If you haven't already, please go back, and be as pushy as you need to. I had the same towards the end of my first pregnancy. I really needed to make a pain in the arse of myself to be taken seriously but - long story short - I was developing preeclampsia & when I was induced at 39 weeks my son was significantly smaller than it looked like on scans, and was not doing well. I believe if I had gone to full term things would not have ended well.

Scrambledchickens · 28/05/2023 06:34

Hi OP please go back in for monitoring anytime you are concerned.
you are 39weeks so induction is a reasonable plan.
Even if ultrasound profile is normal reduced movements are not.
