Universal Credit Question

I'm 20 + 2 and today I reported through my journal on the universal credit website that I am pregnant. (Apparently this has to be reported at 20 weeks).

Is that all I have to do? Will they get in contact with me now with regards as to what I do next?

My employer has my Mat B 1 form (I have a scanned copy), will they ask for this if they need it?

If anyone has any advice or experience with this I would love to hear it! TIA Flowers

You will have to upload your MATB1 form then nothing else until baby is born. If you message them on your journal (select payment for the option) they will send you a link on your to do list to upload the MATB1 form. You can take a picture of the front and back and upload these.

Thank you!

So I've left them a message saying I have my Mat b 1 form on my journal, they'll now get back to me with a link to upload it?

Then I guess I just let them know when the baby is born.

Sorry, I just want to make sure I do everything right.

I had no idea you had to do this. I’m 18 weeks and hadn’t heard anything about this. Assumed it would just be once baby is born like tax credits were. I don’t get my mat b1 form until 24 week appointment

I asked for my Mat b 1 form early from my midwife via a message as my boss asked for it asap. So they left it out for me to collect at my GP surgery.
My next appointment isn't till 28 weeks which is way too late to wait. I think you'll be okay waiting till your next appointment if it's at 24 weeks.

@PickledScrump i think you have to let them know by 20 weeks but can upload the MATB1 as soon as you have it. I didn’t get mine until my 24 weeks appointment and I told UC that I wouldn’t have it until then when I told them at 18 weeks and they said it’s fine at 24 weeks as I had informed them by 20 weeks.

ypu inform them of the pregnancy by clicking on change of circumstances and click on health. Pregnancy is an option there where you pop in when you was pregnant from etc. It’s really easy to do.

I only knew about this from Googling after my 12 weeks scan if I need to do anything. When I messaged them on my journal at 18 weeks they told me what I needed to do.

allgoodthings84 · 23/05/2023 21:19

It’s because pregnancy can affect ability to work at any point with no warning do it’s a change in circumstance. What you get paid won’t change while you’re pregnant.

PickledScrump · 23/05/2023 21:41

My friend is somewhere around 30 weeks had a face to face meeting where they noticed her bump. They didn’t mention that it had to be logged online, ask for her matb1 form or asked her anything about due dates.

Ive asked around and no one seems to know about this and none have done it, just notified them when baby was born. How strange, you’d think it was something midwives would mention like they do with child benefit

allgoodthings84 · 23/05/2023 21:57

@PickledScrump no idea I just saw when I googled that you should inform them by 20 weeks so I contacted them to ask what needed to be done and they told me the above. My midwife said they don’t know anything about UC etc. It’s very different to the child benefit which most people receive and even if you don’t qualify you should apply and pay back as it counts towards your NI contributions while claiming.

jammiedodgerfriday · 24/05/2023 07:06

Well I've reported that I'm pregnant and left them a message on my journal that I've got my Mat B 1 form for them to see, I'll just wait for them to message me back now.

Thanks @allgoodthings84 for your advice.

@jammiedodgerfriday that’s all they told me they needed until baby is born. When baby is here we just have to report the change in circumstance then I imagine they will ask us to upload proof like birth certificate or something but not sure

Sunsunny17 · 30/05/2023 19:42

Hi there. In same situation -Why I’m being told I need to pay to upload my ad-which is question I don’t know!

just wanted to enquire whether mat1b interfered with your UC

and what breaks are we r titled too for 10hours in feet

allgoodthings84 · 30/05/2023 21:55

@Sunsunny17 if you’re employed then it will be paid to you from your employer when you normally would get your wages and should affect UC the same way as your wages do now. If you’re claiming Maternity Allowance instead then it’s a bit different.

In terms of extra breaks when pregnant I think it has to be agreed between you and your employer. I don’t get any extra breaks but I don’t work 10 hour shifts. If you’re not pregnant the minimum is 20 minutes if working 6 hours or more. I’m not sure if there is a minimum for pregnant women. They should be doing a risk assessment with you.
