Hello ladies just looking for any advice really. We lost our son at 22 weeks in January and have recently found out we are expecting again. We went for a private scan on Friday where I saw a strong heartbeat and baby measuring spot on for what we thought our dates were. Sadly though we also saw a twin that had stopped developing at just over 7 weeks. I just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this. I don’t know what to expect or the risk to my other baby. I’m sad to have experienced another loss not even 4 months after losing my son 😢

So sorry for your losses Flowers

I had ivf & suffered multiple losses. I had a twin pregnancy seen on an early scan at the fertility unit, then on a subsequent scan we discovered I had lost one of the twins at 9 weeks. The consultant said that it’s not unusual and very often the baby is just absorbed so is a ‘vanishing twin’.
I spent the whole of my pregnancy convinced I would lose my baby.
Happily my DC is now a gorgeous teen. I hope all remains well with your baby and you are able to gain reassurance once you are under your midwife.

Yes I had similar. Two babies, two heartbeats at 7 weeks. Went for the nipt at 11 weeks and one had not developed further. It's called vanishing twin syndrome and apparently happens in 35ish% of twin pregnancies. So very common. It's a very weird feeling as you don't really experience any loss. No symptoms etc. the foetus just gets smaller and smaller and is eventually absorbed by your body. Hope you are doing ok

I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and have had no other issues with this pregnancy. the consultant told me there is no increased risk to the surviving foetus and it is likely caused by a genetic issue that is entirely incompatible with life ie one of the ones they don't even test for as you miscarry on the first trimester

Thank you everyone, it’s reassuring to hear so many of you have gone on to have successful pregnancy’s but I’m sorry for all your losses. I think after losing my son so recently I’m just desperate for this one to work out. I wondered if anyone knew if there’s anymore of a risk of birth defects or anything. My son had a severe neural tube defect. I have another scan in just over a week so hopefully can get a bit more reassurance then. Xx

yes I've just had this happen. I had on and off spotting in the first 10 weeks, so had a scan a few times. Found out at 7ish weeks there was twins but one was smaller with a weeker heartbeat, then at 9 weeks they were both still there, both had grown but 1 was still smaller with a weaker heartbeat. Then by 11 weeks, the smaller one was nowhere to be seen, leaving an apparently healthy one left.
Nearly 19 weeks now and I'm still really paranoid about the remaining one- hoping I'll feel better after the 20 weeks scan next week if all goes well..
