Can't walk at 36 weeks

The last 24 hours I've gone from having an easy and pain free pregnancy to being in AGONY with my lower back (to one side) and unable to walk without a severe hobble/limp.

The pain is so severe with any weight on my right leg. Feels very deep and a shooting type pain. It's also radiating around the front and down the back of my leg.

Any advice? I've taken paracetamol and have a hot water bottle on it. :-(

Sounds like it could be pelvic girdle pain

AutumnVibes · 19/05/2023 14:49

Sounds like sciatica to me. It can happen if baby moves and sits on a nerve.

davegrohll · 19/05/2023 14:52

Spd (pelvic girdle pain) it's awful op!

snickersicecreampls · 19/05/2023 14:55

Thanks all!

Anything I can do about it?? 😭

Feel better soon! Deffo seek medical advice on it. Rest up!

Mwnci123 · 19/05/2023 14:57

Op do you have any swelling/ discolouration in the leg?

FriedEggChocolate · 19/05/2023 15:00

I was going to say sciatica. Try getting down on all fours (hands and knees) and shift your hips from side to side. It could be linked to how baby is lying. Shift them!

I had similar at about 36 weeks, it was horrible. Maybe try and seek help through your midwife? I lucked out and got a physio appointment pretty quickly that possibly helped a bit. Rest also helped and I stopped going to the gym immediately and switched to swimming (not that I had much choice as could hardly walk).

DustyLee123 · 19/05/2023 15:18

I agree about down in all fours, try and swing baby round to the front.

Have a look on YouTube for yoga exercises related to pelvic girdle pain and try some gentle stretching.

snickersicecreampls · 19/05/2023 16:07

Thanks everyone. I've done some gentle pregnancy yoga and have booked a prenatal massage but it's not until next week.

Going to rest until tomorrow and pray I can walk in the morning!

OP this happened to me at 36 weeks too, I was unable to move and needed help getting off the bed - and the toilet. Excruciating lower back sciatica type pain. I rang the GP who texted me a youtube link with exercises and prescribed cocodamol. I'm 39 weeks now and still stiff when I sit down for a long time but definitely more mobile. I hope you get better soon!

Songbird54321 · 19/05/2023 21:36

Sounds similar to sciatica. I still get it now if I sit on the hard floor and move the wrong way getting up (my daughter is 14 months). Unfortunately runs in my family. Thankfully it doesn't effect me day to day, just when I sit a certain way on the floor.
Take it easy, rest up and take whatever painkillers you can get while pregnant. Maybe try a pharmacist over the weekend if it doesn't ease

bravotango · 19/05/2023 21:43

Echo PP suggestion of PGP/SPD, look up ways to position yourself to minimise the pain and stop it getting worse. E.g. keeping legs together when getting in/out of the bed/car. Mine was very very bad and I couldn't walk more than a couple of minutes from 34 weeks until DS was born - but it went the moment he arrived so that was great!

Garman · 19/05/2023 22:08

Sciatica. Alternate ice and heat, keep knees together getting in and out of car and bed. No hoovering or pushing a trolley or buggy. Wear a support belt if you can get one.

Mumbleer · 19/05/2023 22:11

I had this around 35 weeks. Went to an aquanatal class with gentle exercises in the pool - game changer for me! Hope it improves soon x

rickandmorts · 19/05/2023 22:39

I had this, was in tears one night because every time I rolled over in bed it hurt so much!! I found gentle swimming really helped.

Ged94 · 20/05/2023 07:16

If it's pelvic girdle pain then crossing your legs when sitting makes it much worse. I had it mildly and using a yoga ball at work to sit on has sorted me out, sitting all day in the office was aggravating it for me

halfshutknife · 20/05/2023 07:41

You need a physio appointment. They'll likely give you a belt +/- crutches.

Hope you get done relief.
