I’m Manchester and using Bolton hospital (as I did with my last baby). Which is your nearest?

VeeAye · 19/05/2023 14:59

Me, 9 Weeks and will be at Wythenshawe Hospital

FirstMondayInMay · 19/05/2023 17:01

Hiya, I am! I’m under Oldham, 9 weeks currently 😊 how far along are you?

Blessedmummytobe · 19/05/2023 21:39

Hello all 🥰

Im 7 weeks and I have registered with St Mary’s. I tried to check their rating but hasn’t been done since 2019 at which point it was good.

How are you all getting on so far?

Im in the no symptoms gang…which is annoying but I’m surprisingly calm.

I had my babies with St Mary's in 2019 and 2023 and both times, they were great with me. Has two very positive experiences! X

ThatAbsoluteFkr · 19/05/2023 21:42

I had DS1 at Old St Mary's and then 3 home births under Wythenshawe community midwives, who were wonderful!

Congratulations!

D1sc02000 · 19/05/2023 22:05

I had my first DC at St Mary’s and have opted for Wythenshaw this time instead.

Blessedmummytobe · 19/05/2023 22:23

hello,

@TokenGinger thats good to know you have had a recent good experience.

@ThatAbsoluteFkr a home birth is something I’d like aswell. Will look into it at some point. I guess you preferred it?

@D1sc02000 why the change?

I’ve been to st Mary’s a few times for work and they seemed very good from what I saw!

symptoms wise, mine seemed to have eased off a bit! Still nauseous sometimes but I haven’t actually been sick for 2 weeks now😃

ThatAbsoluteFkr · 20/05/2023 09:19

If its your first I would book a hospital birth, you don't know how you will react to labour.

I had my first in hospital but no pain relief, no G&A, pool labour with bed birth. I was only 20 and found the worst part of the whole thing being in hospital and being forced to stay in 24 hours without my husband.

So for our subsequent children I had home births that suited me much better. It's a very personal thing and not for everyone.

D1sc02000 · 20/05/2023 12:13

@Blessedmummytobe St Mary’s is great, but very busy, which factored into a couple of issues with my care. Having been under Wythenshaw this time I’ve noticed wait times run much closer to schedule, but that said I haven’t birthed there so don’t know how that experience will compare.

Blessedmummytobe · 23/05/2023 16:59

@TokenGinger do you have a number for St Mary’s by any chance?

how long has/did everyone wait for their first appointment?

TIA x

In my experience the specialist teams at St Mary’s are fantastic but it’s a very busy hospital. I will likely have to give birth at St Mary’s if I have another baby (due to complexities during my first pregnancy which St Mary’s picked up on really early) but given the choice I’d definitely prefer a quieter hospital. Having said that if there’s any sign of it being a risky pregnancy I’d want the reassurance of St Mary’s without a shadow of a doubt.

FirstMondayInMay · 23/05/2023 17:12

I had my booking appointment earlier today; it took them 3 weeks to contact me after self referring to the midwives and then a further 3 weeks to wait for the appointment x

Misspotterscat · 23/05/2023 17:57

I am not from Manchester but due to a health condition of my own will be giving birth at St Mary’s. I’m happy with this, although I am roughly an hour journey time away which is a pain.

CR7 · 26/05/2023 20:32

I'm 7+1 and will be at wythenshawe also 🐝

Blessedmummytobe · 26/05/2023 20:38

Hey ladies ❤️ It’s not worked out for me and currently waiting to see if I have miscarried or it’s ectopic as the sonographer at wythenshawe couldn’t see anything. She also wanted to give me a transvaginal scan with a male student there - no one mentioned a transvaginal scan before hand. I wish you all well with your pregnancies. Love and light ✨🌈

I had DD2 at St Mary's last September and had DS1 in Wythenshawe in 2021. Both were great but there are definite differences. I would agree wait times at St Mary's are longer. Also Wythenshawe has its amazing midwife led birth centre. 7 rooms, a couch type thing rather than a hospital bed and a pool in each room. It's not guaranteed but it's pretty likely as they have so many there is usually one free. With DS 1 my waters broke late on in labour and had a complication surrounding that. Staff at Wythenshawe were fantastic, so calm, and before I knew it I was in a clinical room so they could assist me better, no panic or anything it was just like that was the next step that should have been happening so I didn't panic. No complications with DD2 so can't say how they'd react but my midwife was amazing, talked me down from my 'I can't do it' phase and was genuinely just so lovely and kept me focused.
So both positive experiences for me.

@Blessedmummytobe sorry to hear about your miscarriage. My first pregnancy resulted in that way. Sending a handhold Flowers

CR7 · 26/05/2023 20:49

@Blessedmummytobe so sorry to hear xx

FirstMondayInMay · 26/05/2023 21:13

@Blessedmummytobe so sorry to hear it hasn’t worked out for you!xx

EmilyV · 26/05/2023 22:17

I'm newly pregnant and based in Manchester too. I think I'll be under Bolton, which hasn't been rated too poorly. My choice would be Saint Mary's though!
