How common is a molar pregnancy after seeing a heartbeat?

Currently in hospital due to HG and the doctor has said they'll do a scan to rule out a molar pregnancy. I'm 9w4d and have had a private scan where a heartbeat and embryo were seen. I'm now worried what if it's a molar pregnancy. He said the chances are low but I'm a over thinker.

How common is this?

Thanks

I've had a partial molar, there was definitely no heartbeat Flowers

Sorry to hear that @SiouxsieSiouxStiletto how far along were you when you found out?

@babyk2023 with a molar pregnancy there is no baby, so definitely you wouldn't have seen an embryo and certainly not a heartbeat, its 100% not a molar pregnancy. NHS cannot take private ultrasounds into consideration and that is why the doctor will has to rule that out for themselves, they cant just take your private ultrasounds word for it. Don't worry, its not a molar pregnancy.

Thanks. So is it just a routine test they do when you come into hospital whilst pregnant?

It was a long time ago and I was 12 weeks.

If you've seen a heartbeat it's definitely just a routine test Flowers

There are differences between molars: a partial molar a fetus will grow but improperly and is eventually overcome by molar tissue; with a complete molar there is never a fetus in the first place, so that definitely doesn't sound like the case here (this is what I had). Do you know why your doctor is suggesting this? Is your HCG very high? It might just be a case of them being very overly cautious. I know it's easier said than done but try to stay as calm, I'm sure you'll know more soon

He suggested this as soon as he told me I have hyperemis. This was before I had any bloods or anything. He just said it as he was admitting me. I've spoken to few ladies on the ward and they've all been offered the same scan for hyperemis so I think it's a routine test?

@babyk2023 Ah okay then. It certainly sounds like you could do without this worry as an additional stress! Hope you start to feel better soon

Sounds very routine. When I had my Partial Molar they were constantly checking my HCG levels, if they're not doing this then they aren't really worried about it being a Molar.

babyk2023 · 18/05/2023 16:49

My HCG levels are 173065. Worried that it could be a molar. I'm 9 weeks 5 days :( x

Hello,
I just wondered - does anyone know whether a heartbeat is ever detected with a molar or partial molar pregnancy? Or is everything more likely to be normal if a heartbeat is detected?
Thank you in advance 😊

Hello lovely. You may have more luck starting a new thread as people may miss your question and just respond to the original post. But from my experience - a heartbeat was detected with my partial molar pregnancy. There won't be a fetus or heartbeat with a full molar but is possible with a partial. I hope everything goes OK for you x
