CVS procedure experiences please? (failed NIPT test)

Hi all,

looking for some reassurance regarding CVS testing experiences.

having the procedure done on Friday after waiting nearly 2 weeks for NIPT results just to be told that they couldn’t get a result from my sample (which is scaring me! Why does this happen?!). I am absolutely gutted as I wanted to avoid invasive testing but seems like our only option now.

looking to hear others’ experiences as I am very apprehensive. This time in limbo/waiting is absolutely horrific. :(

Did the nhs test come back as high risk? Can they redo your nipt?

STKF96 · 17/05/2023 13:30

@PickledScrump NIPT came back that they couldn’t get a result, neither high nor lower risk. Just inconclusive 😩

They can run the test again but they wouldn’t get the results back for a while, and they said that there is still a chance it could be the same again as they’ve had women come back as inconclusive twice before. X

@STKF96 i meant the screening test that happens at the dating scan. Did that come back high or low risk?

STKF96 · 17/05/2023 15:22

@PickledScrump ah I see, sorry for misunderstanding. It came back as high risk for T21, 1/84 chance. X

Ah ok. I guess it comes down to whether or not it’s worth the risk for you. Personally I wouldn’t terminate a DS baby so it wouldn’t be worth the risks for me to go through a cvs and I’d hate myself if anything happened because of it. I only know of one person that’s had one and it did cause miscarriage, results showed baby didn’t have genetic condition

@PickledScrump definitely understand this. I wouldn't necessarily terminate, but the anxiety of not knowing (as I am already an incredibly anxious person!) is too much to deal with for another 6 months :( I am definitely having the procedure, was more looking for others' experiences. I am sorry that happened to your friend. X
