Hi everyone I’m 7weeks pregnant and have felt dreadful the last 10days with constant nausea, even waking me up early hours every day so I’m exhausted too! Had a dr appt today and given me cyclazine, I had a tablet at lunch and that helped me have a couple of hours sleep but now I can’t have another tablet until bed as needs to be 8hrs apart. I feel terrible again and just wondered if anyone has been on this medication, is it normal for the tablet to wear off so quickly? How long should they take to kick in? Can’t wait to feel better as it’s getting me down tia

You need to wait and see if it helps over the next day or two, but there are other anti-sickness tablets they can give you if not. Have you tried acu-pressure wristbands? Some women find they help with pregnancy nausea as well as travel sickness

That one didn't work for me. I ended up with phenergan which knocked me out but did really ease the nausea. I had to take it at bedtime.

Jammydodged · 15/05/2023 21:42

I am taking it, I was told you need to give it a few days to work and take it every 8 hours. Put an alarm on your phone if you’re prone to forget. The midwife also said to me though that it also doesn’t work for some people and to go back if no better.

I took this for my first two pregnancies, I still threw up but it took the edge off the constant nausea. God I wanted to die in my first pregnancy, you have my sympathy and I hope it kicks in or you find something that does!! I had to leave the room to throw up twice during my 20wk scan and spent a lot of my time wandering around clutching at walls feeling horrendous. Scan person sent me to consultant to get drugs asap which was nice and definitely worth it although I assumed I would just have to suffer through it!

Thanks all for your replies, after having my 2nd tablet I managed 6hrs sleep. Il see how it goes over next few days if not Il ring up for something else. Felt v sick when I woke up so waiting for tablet to kick in again. Just can’t wait to feel better it’s going to be a long pregnancy if not

I found it very difficuly to stay awake so it was a bit of a balancing act between vomit and incapacity from drowsiness! GP suggested I have half a tablet every 4 hours (and then a full one before bed). They have a line down them so that you can break them easily. That worked much better for me.

Do try all the usual things as well as the meds. Frequent tiny snacks can take the edge off, and eating something e.g. set cracker before you get out of bed. Keep a diary of what you eat/how bad you feel so you can see if there are any patterns. Lots of lotto changes + medication can make things tolerable (usually!). And remember, it will eventually pass one way or another. Every day of vomiting is another day closer to meeting your beautiful baby!

@CMG92 I felt exactly the same as you’re describing at 7 weeks, it’s awful isn’t it?

I found cyclizine hasn’t fully removed the nausea, but it does take the edge off a bit.

I agree with the suggestion to set an alarm. I normally take my first one at 7am, but a few times at the weekend I’ve slept in and taken my first one later and consequently ended up with worse nausea taking hold those days.

I’m 12 weeks now and the last couple of days things have really started to improve - I’ve been able to eat more like normal meals and honestly I feel like I’ve been reborn after 6 weeks of very miserable existence.

Hope things improve for you soon 🙏🏻

@Fairylight102 thanks for your reply, I keep getting really bad chills when the nausea gets really bad, did you experience this too? If I didn’t know I was pregnant I would say I feel like iv had a sickness bug as I keep having a bad head with it too. My midwife appt is on Tues but think I’m going to have to rest and be off work as iv come home twice this week as I feel so poorly! So pleased you are improving there is light at the end of the tunnel!

@CMG92 I didn’t get chills, if anything I felt hotter. I did get headaches like you though, I’d describe it as a feeling of pressure building up in my head.

Definitely rest and take time off work if you can. Be kind to yourself, nausea is so awful and after a while it can really start to get you down because it seems like it will never end. It will end eventually though!!

@Fairylight102 thanks for your kind words x

I took Cyclizine from 7 weeks and found it didn't help much and just made me fall asleep. I moved on to Propchloperazine and it was a game changer! Still have to take it now at 33 weeks unfortunately but it really helps and if I don't take it I'm sick all day.

Sissynova · 18/05/2023 09:23

I have to take it at 6am, 12 and 6 as I need the 3 doses to stop vomiting but I'm not awake long enough to do 6/2/10!

CMG92 · 18/05/2023 15:43

just wanted to update you all I went to the drs this morning as I feel so poorly and they have said I have hypersemis gravidarum and found white cells in my urine so awaiting results to find out what the infection is exactly to start antibiotics. I had high blood pressure and a temperature so no wonder I feel rubbish! Been given new anti sickness tablets prochlozopine to try this weekend

@CMG92 Sorry to hear this! Hope the new medication is helpful.

PaintedEgg · 19/05/2023 10:27

@CMG92 I've had the same :( UTIs can make sickness worse so hopefully you'll feel better after antibiotics

unfortunately I found tablets wearing off quickly soon (that is if I didn't immediately vomit them back up) - best thing to do is rest while slightly elevated, and try to figure out what foods make your sickness worse :(
