Painful bladder not UTI

Hi guys,
I feel a bit at my wits end! Had a uti at 9 weeks, strep b, took a week of amoxicillin & a week of nitrofurantoin to clear. Got another at about 15/16 weeks took another week of nitrofurantoin and then amoxicillin to clear it. Now at 19+4 I feel like I have another one! Went to GP Friday, they did a test and it's clear, sent urine to hospital, I rang the midwife & she could access the results and said it's clear on culture too. Any idea what this is? Uncomfortable after I have a wee it stings, feel like I need to go a lot and some cramping (that could be RLP though). Midwife and pharmacist ok'd the cystitis sachets and they have been helping. Also got some thrush cream incase it was that. Anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks

Might be worth mentioning I drink so much water, well over 2L. I wondered if I'm drinking too much and my bladder is constantly getting irritated.

I had a few UTIs in a short space of time and my bladder was irritated after and felt uncomfortable for a while.

Have you tried drinking cranberry juice I find that helped a lot. I also used to take cranberry capsules not sure if you can take those in pregnancy though so check with your midwife or doctor, they also helped. Hope you feel better soon as it's miserable x

@Tryingtoconceivenumber2

Thank you. Yes been drinking cranberry juice everyday, I will ask about the supplements. I wondered if it was just irritated. I just worry a lot!

Yes I was the same I could not get rid of mine and I'm sure it was irritated afterwards for weeks.

I paid to see a private urologist in the end as my Doc's was rubbish. The only antibiotics that really worked was Kefalaxin but I wasn't pregnant at the time so not sure if you can have those if it pops up again x

Brilliant new podcast on chronic urinary tract infections (CUTIs), highly recommend if you're wanting to learn more about the little know topic of CUTIs. If you have a normal UTI, definitely give this a listen too. Its brilliantly researched and a really important topic everyone should be aware of!

I have no advice but really empathise with you. I’m 36 weeks now and have had 3 lots of antibiotics over the pregnancy for UTIs as well as thrush treatment. It’s miserable and I also felt like my GP didn’t act quick enough to treat the first time it came round. I found the doc in maternity hospital better and the antibiotics they prescribed were stronger and eventually cleared it. I think because you’re generally peeing more due to pressure on the bladder, that can cause a lot of irritation, as well as higher risk of introducing bacteria by wiping more frequently etc.

I would continue to raise it as a concern with your midwife and maybe request a vaginal swab to rule out thrush. I had no external thrush symptoms, only internal which included pain when weeing and generally feeling tender in that area. I needed the pessary in the end rather than cream
