Morning everyone,

so I’m a FTM & trying to organise what I need to pack for my hospital bag. I’m booked in for an c-section and for medical reasons am unable to breastfeed.

this is my list so far, is there anything that I’ve missed? Thank you 😊

Maybe a little cotton hat for the baby if it's cold when you are discharged x

Your lists look great, but from what I can think of, maybe bobbles? Depending on your hair length. And I took a mini fan for on the ward as it was warm (in October). And instead of maternity pads, I took the disposable pants, but the pads might be ok for you. I also made sure the phone charger was one of the longer ones. Good luck! X

How long are you likely to be in hospital for after C-section? Pack a Kindle or magazine maybe. Don't forget hair brush and hair band!

You won't need sudocream for baby whilst in hospital. Are you thinking here for nappy changes? An emollient barrier cream would be better, like Bepanthan or Waleda Calendula, or even just vaseline! With ready made formula, does it come in ready to feed bottles/bottles with a teat or might you need to take bottles and sterilising stuff too? I've no idea with bottle feeding. You say you can't breastfeed for medical reasons - have you got a plan for when your milk comes in or to suppress it (is that possible?)? Be prepared for discomfort and maybe pack some pain killers.

And make sure you've got plenty of memory space for taking photos ☺️

Good luck!

Something to do while waiting for your turn for the section is my main one, I was so bored and frustrated

Usually the newborn sleepsuits have built in feet and scratch mitts so you might not need to take those. We used the muslins as bibs to catch dribbles, they work great for that when they are so small. Muslins are great, we cycle through using/washing so many. A hat is good though for when they first are born and also to go home in.

There’s small 70cl ready made formulas you can buy, and even disposable teats that can attach onto the formula bottle so you don’t need to worry about sterilising etc. My baby was in scbu and needed them to start on, they put the little bottle in a plastic container of warm/hot water to warm it up a bit, then take the lid off and screw the disposable teat on. Works really well.

I had an emergency C-section. No idea what your usual wardrobe is like. My dh had to go out and buy me high waist knickers to avoid the scar, several sizes larger to sit comfortably on the bump. Also I wore high waist leggings that would sit over the bump but not be too tight.

Thank you all for replying and recommendations 🙂 I’m planning on getting the ready made formula with tears so don’t have to take bottles & sterilise etc, I always carry a hair bobble on my wrist religiously, I’d be lost without it haha! I appreciate all your recommendations. Thanks so much 🙂 x

Massive, massive pants that will come up over your scar.

Pollywoddles · 14/05/2023 21:24

Pen and notepad
Extra long cable charger

I got the FridaMom high waist disposable knickers to use for the first few days after so I could just bin them, they were brilliant and so comfy.

Agree with Vaseline for the baby as a barrier cream.

I think you’ve listed everything that I had in mine.

Looks like your list covers most things. I’d add a handheld fan and a power bank if you can.
