First week of my new job and been bleeding all week but heavier yesterday and today with cramping. Confirmed misscarriage last week.

Im hoping I can get through today with the bleeding and cramping. If I can’t I’m abit worried about what I will say to my manager.
I don’t really want to mention misscarriage.

advice please ladies.

Hospital pads, period knickers and painkillers if you must but if I were you I’d be getting signed off. Passing the sac can be quite distressing and sometimes you feel quite faint. I’ve gone to work after chemicals but when I miscarried at 6.5 weeks I was glad I was on holiday.

Just say you are feeling unwell and go home. Absolutely nothing more needs to be said. No one will ask questions especially as there are lots of bugs going around at the moment. It is so agonising for women going through this. I remember having a missed miscarriage and having to have a D&C and have just play it off as a minor op to my manager. i have only started that job a month earlier. I didn’t say what it was for and he didn’t probe for further details. Go home and rest and forget about work x

How are you now, OP?

So sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is. I carried on working through all of my miscarriages but it was really hard. In hindsight I wish I had made up a sickness bug or similar and taken a couple of days off, I know it’s hard in a new job but illness isn’t discerning and you need to wait 48hrs until go back after the bug so as not to spread it so it buys you some time. Don’t feel obliged to tell them the real reason, lots of bosses will be sympathetic but there are always some who won’t. Look after yourself and take time to grieve as well

I’m ok. Leaked a little bit yesterday so had to make some makeshift pants from toilet paper! 😩

Feeling a bit ill today though. Was supposed to go to my sons football match but I just can’t do it. Feel very sick and just tired and weak.

But otherwise I am doing ok. Us women are so strong the amount of stuff we have to go through is unreal.

Sorry you're going through this OP.

You would be completely justified in going home but I understand if you don't want to do that when you've just started a new job.

My only advice is to take painkillers religiously every 4 hours and get some really thick pads so you're less worried about leaks. If you're bleeding a lot then maternity pads might be the way to go, but they are very large, and personally even when I was postpartum I preferred the thickest sanitary towels I could find.

Assuming you're not a veggie, eat plenty of red meat, or take iron supplements, ideally with an effervescent Vitamin C drink to help with the absorption of the iron. The Berocca ones with Vitamins C and B and caffeine are good. If you're bleeding a lot then iron is important to reduce the risk of anaemia. I would also take magnesium before bed to aid sleep and try to get some fresh air and sunshine every day.

I've been where you are several times and it's really shit, but this will pass, I promise.

Just make sure you look after yourself and take things one day at a time.

You poor thing. Sorry you're feeling ill. I misscarried at 7 weeks and was actually glad to be at work as it wasa distraction, I didn't want to be at home dwelling. I did findthr cramps very painful though and I ended up in the nurses office at lunchtime (I'm a teacher). She was so lovely and just let me have a little lie down in the dark with a bit water bottle and gave me some cocodamol for the pain. Is there anywhere at your work you can go to for a bit if you need to?

I think it's a balance between distraction and needing some time to process, and different people need different things. I hope you get through the next day or two and feel better soon.
