Dry Heaving / Gagging

I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice or has experienced the same thing and could possibly tell me when it goes away 😫

I'm coming up to 12 weeks and ever since about 8 weeks I have been gagging if I'm hungry, first thing when I wake up and at extremely bad smells. I never ever have eaten breakfast, not even as a kid did I ever eat breakfast, I was just never hungry first thing in the morning and I couldn't stomach eating, im not sure why I just got hungry around lunchtime instead 🤷‍♀️ but now that I'm pregnant, I'm starving as soon as I wake up, if I don't eat I immediately start gagging. I haven't yet thrown up which is a win! (Touch wood) but when I was like 8 weeks I had no appetite and I would get full extremely quickly like a small bowl of cereal or a sandwich would do me for hours, but now im like 12 weeks im hungry all the time, I had a roast today, gagging because im hungry like 20 minutes later it's actually awful! Any

Anyone experienced this or anything similar, it's so painful, I'm still at work and haven't told anyone so it's so awkward I have to go and hide to gag then I very quickly have to go and eat (luckily I work around sweets so I can just grab a handful of sweeties to help me out lol) but when will this go away 🥲 my pregnancy craving so far is apple juice which doesn't help fill my belly 😭

You should speak to your GP - there is anti-nausea medication that is safe to take in pregnancy. You could also try a wristband that uses acu-pressure for travel sickness/ nausea

I had really bad nausea for the first trimester and was dry heaving all of the time but never actually sick. I’m 25 weeks (tomorrow) now and the nausea is gone but I do still gag and heave when brushing my teeth and bad smells. Once the heaving starts it takes ages for it to calm down. Nothing ever comes up but it’s a lack of control and not very pleasant. In the first 11 weeks I had to constantly eat dry foods to keep the nausea down as much as possible. Also ring your doctor for anti sickness meds as they aren’t just for actual sickness

I've been similar but not so severe. I've not been sick but have been heaving the whole time. I can't open the fridge without heaving. I'm almost 12 weeks now so hoping it will settle down soon x

It's very common, you need to eat little and often. And definitely as soon as you wake, even if it's just a biscuit.

If it gets too much then there is medication but mainly you just need to find a way of eating that keeps the nausea at bay.

This started around 12 week for me and lasted until 30 weeks. I just had to make sure I never got hungry, always had snacks and ate a slide of toast the moment I got out of bed. Kept biscuits on my bedside table.

Fresh fruit, peppermint tea, and toast were my saviours.

Another person echoing don't let yourself get hungry and eat as soon as you wake up.

Tricks I used were gluten free ginger oat biscuits (just 1) on me at all times and dried apricots and about 5almonds.

Didn't feel like eating but had to eat and would often wake at 2am to eat!

Sometimes I still dry heave on an empty stomach for no reason many years on. It's embarrassing but the family find it funny! Wink

I had this all 3 times along with actual vomiting. First time I needed to go on medication, 2nd time it lasted until about 14 weeks, 3rd time it lasted until about 20 weeks and then came back at 30 weeks.

I found I needed to eat immediately on waking. A cracker or something dry I could keep beside the bed and then have breakfast before doing anything else. I wore those acupressure bands around the clock and it made very little difference. Keeping something in my stomach at all times was the only thing that vaguely helped.
