Tubes tied or snip?

I am currently pregnant with my 4th child. My husband was meant to get the snip years ago, although I’m glad he didn’t as our 3rd born child passed away. We are now having our 4th and final baby. I will be getting a section with this baby and was offered last time with my 3rd if I wanted my tubes ties. I’m not sure what is the best option should I get it done this time while having section or is it less problematic for my husband to get the ship? I’m not sure which has the most successful rates etc and if there is pros and cons to each. If anyone could advise me that would be great. Thanks 😊

The snip is less invasive and more effective. I believe having tubes tied during c section has a higher failure rate too.

Check if the NHS offers vasectomies in your area as well. It doesn't where we are so DH is having to go privately. That might affect your decision.

I’m sorry for your loss OP.

I was offered tubes tied during my second c section too (3rd baby). There’s no way!!

• I’d already done my bit
• didn’t want any more interference/potential to go wrong
• didn’t want any foreign bodies in my body (didn’t get as far as researching, but ties/clips etc)
• plus the high failure rate.

DH getting the snip in July!

So very sorry for your loss.

But in all seriousness, why not have both? Have the ligation done during surgery for sure if your family is complete. Only adds 5-10 minutes to the overall operation time. A section of each fallopian tube is removed, and the ends cauterised and stitched closed. No foreign bodies left. Has no effect on recovery. Then DH can have a vasectomy. Nothing wrong with doubling up. You've done all the work with the pregnancies, and potentially all the heavy lifting when it comes to birth control too. He can do his part too.

As others have said, vasectomies also have lower failure rates than ligation done during a C-section. Just make sure he gets his follow up to ensure it has worked.
