Not sure if waters have gone or if it’s pee?

I’m 40 weeks, I just woke up to liquid dripping down my bum, im no stranger to leaking pee since my third trimester but usually when I leak pee in my sleep I wake up needing to pee this time I didn’t need to pee I don’t want to go to hospital because I would die from embarrassment if it was pee, my baby isn’t engaged yet anyway so unlikely it’s waters? It was clear liquid, and when I touched it it felt kind of greasy?

A call to a midwife is never a wasted call. It is their job to keep you and your baby safe... Give her chance to do her job op.
My ds ended up 'failing to thrive' after an infection caused by waters going and they left me for days..

ShowOfHands · 08/05/2023 12:48

My waters went and the hospital had already warned me that as DS wasn't engaged at all, I needed checking if my waters went because of the risk of the cord becoming trapped. Along with the infection risk, you need checking.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 08/05/2023 13:14

You can't just wait to see if labour comes. My daughter caught an infection (sepsis) because my waters broke before contractions / labour started and i then had a long labour with her (without being given antibiotics, but thats a different story). She spent two weeks in NICU then SCBU.

Its important your midwife knows what is going on so they can plan. You might get told to wait and watch, they might want you in to check, they might want to give you some antibiotics but noone on the internet can tell you. Please call them and ask for their advice.

As for wearing a thick maternity pad, if it is your waters, you will need it. I went through 5 maternity pads in the space of leaving home and getting seen by the midwife!

@Dammitthisisshit they checked with a speculum and said it was watery discharge and possibly some mucus plug and I was ok to go home

Good news, @Spockrates! Hope you don't have too much longer to wait until baba makes their appearance!

Call them and go in. Better to die from embarrassment than end up with an infection or anything like that

Bumble84 · 08/05/2023 16:01

Sorry just read your update. Glad you got checked!

Okunevo · 08/05/2023 16:10

This happened to me after sex and I wasn't sure what it was. I was terrified of induction or going to the hospital too early so I put a pad on and tried to forget about it. Woke up in labour 36 hours later so I think it may have been my waters.

Obels · 08/05/2023 16:13

When my waters went, they trickled very lightly, there wasn't even a continuous flow of it. I also started getting abdominal cramps.

I went in to get checked but I wasn't dilated when they tested my cervix and they said they could still feel my waters so I was fine, sent me home. Went back 24 hours later because I was still in lots of pain, cramping, trickling at times. Tested me again - I was about half way dilated, admitted and put on antibiotics.

Turns out my "back" waters went through a tiny hole, so slowly, and my "front" waters were stil there (and didn't burst until I was fully dilated and pushing).

From the time the waters started going to the time I gave birth, it was about 35 hours.

I'd go get checked.

Obels · 08/05/2023 16:13

Well I say, not dilated, I was about 1inch apparently, but "waters in tact" (they werent).

Obels · 08/05/2023 16:19

Rad update (sorry)!! Glad you are ok

Spockrates · 08/05/2023 17:07

@Obels i did get checked they said it wasn’t waters, I have also been getting pain at the bottom of my stomach little niggling pain similar to period pain but they had the monitor on me and said I wasn’t contracting so possibly my body getting ready for labour, I am now home and I don’t know if I am having braxton hicks or not as my stomach keeps going rock hard and it’s not painful maybe a 1 out of 10 on pain scale but everytime my stomach goes hard I am feeling pressure down low does that sound like braxton hicks?

OP posts:
ChickpeaPie · 08/05/2023 22:32

No, doesn’t sound like braxton hicks, sounds like your body gearing up for labour

RuthTopp · 09/05/2023 17:32

Hi @Spockrates How are things today ?

Spockrates · 10/05/2023 09:17

@RuthTopp I’ve been having pains since then on and off that night I leaked more discharge that night which was pink midwife said it is a “show” minor pain in my lower abdomen and back, was barely noticeable pain on the first day yesterday slightly worse and today slightly worse again, it’s not a constant pain, doesn’t come on regular times, sometimes every 20 mins sometimes every hour or more, sometimes it lasts 10 seconds, sometimes it lasts 20-30 seconds so I think it might be braxton hicks
