Chest infection moan

Hi all.

I think I just need to moan. I am 32 weeks at the moment and I have been suffering from a chest infection for four weeks. Dr initially told me it was viral but saw a different Dr yesterday who was shocked I had been this way for so long! She immediately prescribed antibiotics and I have started taking them. She advised strict bed rest this weekend and to call 111 if my condition hasn’t improved within 48 hours.

I am just so breathless and uncomfortable with it, especially because I am carrying high! I also have a four year old who is a live wire and trying to occupy her this weekend is a tough task. My partner also has a stag do which he has offered not to go on but equally it’s his best friend so I feel like he does deserve to go despite my condition.

My mum has taken my daughter out for a couple of hours this morning so I can rest but all I’ve done is cry. I just feel so overwhelmed.

Is anyone else finding this stage difficult or any other ladies suffering illness? Happy to provide you a virtual hand hold.

I had exactly the same, and it was shit. Not helped by a GP initially diagnosing a chest infection as anxiety…

I only felt properly better when I had an iron infusion - anaemia can interfere with your breathing and of course makes you even more exhausted. If your iron is at all low I’d look at whether you might be eligible and push for it.

Thank you for replying. Interestingly the first doctor I saw was a man who told me it’s normal to be this breathless in the third trimester (totally ignored the green phlegm and barking cough). The doctor I saw yesterday was a woman who said the complete opposite and told me she was very glad I called. Go figure.

I just get so sick of genuine health issues being passed off as a ‘normal’ part of pregnancy. It is not normal to feel this bad.

I am low on iron and I am currently taking a supplement actually so I will look in to whether that could be exasperating my shortness of breath. Sorry you you were misdiagnosed initially, it’s a piss take.

Mine was actually a female GP, but the vibe was very much ‘silly pregnant lady just needs to calm down’.

My baby was born a week ago and all was fine by the time she arrived, but my experience all the way through pregnancy was that if I didn’t do my own reading and push for what I needed, nothing happened.

it’s crap, and a very different experience to when DD1 was born 3.5 years ago.
