Hi everyone!

Me and my partner are off for our dream holiday to Mexico in 4 weeks and I have found out today im pregnant. Should I be worried, do i need to speak to a doctor? Im more concerned about flying! Any advise would be fab!

Not a chance I'd go to Mexico when pregnant. Zika! I wouldn't use DEET either when pregnant. I don't think going is an option.

Zika risk is very low these days, people who live there still have babies! I would speak to your doctor for more information.
Definitely compression socks for the airplane, drink loads of water whilst on the plane too, and make sure your insurance covers you.
Congratulations! Xx

How many babies are born in Mexico each day effected by zika? I bet hardly any! Anyway I’d look into the stats, but I’d be more worried about dengue, bad food poising etc.

Snugglemonkey · 05/05/2023 21:42

I would not be going, sorry.

FusionChefGeoff · 05/05/2023 21:45

Speak to your agent / holiday company / hotel and ask if you can transfer to a different destination.

Go easy on the poor girl. She's only just found out she's pregnant and is looking for opinions, not verbal abuse like being called an idiot. And of course she's not choosing a holiday over a healthy baby. She's only getting her head around it.

Unless we want to loose $3000 we cant cancel, as its less than a month 😣

Have you looked up the potential impact of catching ZIKA when pregnant on your unborn child? Your $3000 has already gone anyway.

Over 4,000 in 2016 by October of that year.

Mrsstart · 05/05/2023 22:30

Sorry to say but I wouldn't risk it.
We are in this exact position and cancelled due to zika. Whilst it might be mid risk you wouldn't forgive yourself if something happened.
It's a holiday (amazing as it is) and the health of your baby, you'll have plenty more lovely family holidays in the future xx

Over 4,000 in 2016 by October of that year.

2016 was when zika peaked, it dropped off massively after that. In 2022 there were only 12 confirmed cases in the entirety of Mexico (vs 8.5k in 2016).

TTCxox · 05/05/2023 23:12

my work colleague was meant to go bali but said her travel insurance/airline were able to giver her flight vouchers instead of money. She said it was a lot of hassle but they got there in the end

TMess · 05/05/2023 23:18

No way, especially not in the first trimester. We cancelled our trip to Cancun for the same reason earlier this year.

@strawberry2017 yes its 90% cancellation fee at this time, which is the hard part!

belive me you would pay 30k if there was a cure for Zika if you caught it. Have some common sense.
