Will this holiday be a problem?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a holiday to Jamaica planned for when I’ll be 15/16 weeks. I will definitely do my own research but just wondering, is sunbathing in 30-35°c heat dangerous for baby? I’ve read a lot about how you shouldn’t raise your internal body temp etc.

Also, it’s a 9 hour flight! Any experiences or tips for this during 2nd trimester? Am I going to cope and is it even safe?! Thank you! X

If you're worried just skip the sunbathing

Pregnant people do live in Jamaica too.
Just seek shade or air con if you're getting too hot.

@90yomakeuproom of course I know that, I have family there! I just wanted to see if anyone’s got any tips and experience for making it comfortable as possible and safest for baby. So far just imagining spending a lot of time in the sea!

Ive flown to Australia and back at similar number of weeks due two pregnancies. The morning sickness/ jet lag were much worse ( may have just been coincidence) but otherwise no problem.

I flew longer than that (west coast USA) at that stage, it was fine, not hot though

I flew to Florida last year bang on 16 weeks, flight was absolutely fine. Was in September so also in the low 30’s, but the heat didn’t feel too much like a problem (I didn’t really sunbathe due to feeling too hot and sweaty) but it was nice to sit in the shade and be in the pool to cool down. You should be fine 😊

This is really reassuring, thank you! X

Have you checked the Zika advice op?: www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/caribbean/jamaica#:~:text=This%20country%20has%20been%20categorised,low%20risk%20of%20sexual%20transmission.

Take care to avoid mosquito bites.

You won't raise your internal body temperature from being in the sun, it regulates itself.

The only way you could make a significant difference to it is if you were to stubbornly sit in the sun for hours even if you were finding it horribly uncomfortable.

Just stay hydrated and go in the shade when you feel a bit hot.

I couldn't have coped with throwing up in an aeroplane toilet/sick bag for that long, twice.
