At 32 weeks my baby had flipped to breech position. This is my third baby and never experienced this before.

  1. can you birth a breech baby?

  2. can baby still flip by the time I have my 36 week scan?

  3. if I need a c section can I ask for skin to skin asap and for delayed cord clamping?

Some hospitals will have a natural breech birth team. The only person I know who had a natural breech birth actively advocates that women shouldn’t have to do breech birth. My dc didn’t flip but I know plenty of people whose dc did.

  1. Depends on the breech. Please talk to your health care professional about the risks.
  2. Babies can flip till very late in the pregnancy, and plenty do by 36 weeks. No need for panic tet.
  3. Yes, you can ask but you'll only get it if the medical situation at that precise moment can allow for it. I asked (c section for different reason) but the doctor needed to care for my baby first because she was so poorly at the start so I didn't get to hold her till she was 3 hours old. So ask, but keep in mind that health takes priority.

I had a breech baby which moved head down at 38 weeks just as I was about to be admitted to hospital for monitoring. I had a stationery office job which didn't help as I was sat in the same position for hours each day.

Question 2: at 37 weeks the doctor told me the baby was very unlikely to move and I'd have to have a cesarean. I started following some yoga videos on YouTube for breech babies and tried the spinning babies website and luckily he moved in time and I was induced at 39 weeks and had a vaginal birth.

Question 1: I spoke to the midwife who was very experienced and she said they used to deliver breech babies many years ago but that the NHS policy at the hospital I went to now requires them to do this as a cesarean only so this knowledge is not being passed down to more recently qualified midwives. However maybe the hospital policy where you are is different.

Question 3 I don't know sorry.

I’ve had both types of deliveries and there was no difference in how the baby was passed to me. Baby was straight on my chest and I was wheeled out of theatre, into recovery and onto ward with them on me.

I had a breech birth. Although doctors were pushing me to have a c section, no one ever actually told me that breech deliveries could be dangerous. I thought it was because I was geriatric so fought against it. In the end I went into labour before the C section date and was fortunate enough to have 2 different midwives on 2 consecutive shifts who had prior experience. Really easy delivery with just gas and air in the end, but I'm sure that's because of the super experienced midwives. Would suggest speaking to your midwifery unit to find out in advance if anyone has experience.

Breech not breach!

32 weeks is too early to say your baby is breech. Still plenty of time for baby to move.

Look at spinning babies online, you can do inversions every day. Also start walking more and get on a birthing ball doing circles and figures of 8. Also swimming and cat/cow yoga movements. You want to create a hammock with your tummy so baby has space to move.

Could also try reflexology, acupuncture and moxibustion.

I had a very straightforward natural breech birth.

Ds1 was breech. From my research I decided that if I could guarantee that I would have an experienced midwife delivering him then I would have a 'normal' birth. However I was not convinced that would happen so went for a c-section. DS1 was definitely not for turning! I tried different things off the internet and an ECV. It can happen though - right up to delivery. I found all of my c-sections positive experiences. They listened to my requests and enabled them to happen when they could. My top priority was the healthy delivery for both me and my ds. I initially found the acceptance that I had a c-section tricky as I had 'planned' a water birth with minimal intervention but once I got through that all was good!

I second this advice. I had a breech baby at 32 weeks, did all the spinning babies hanging upside down off the couch (more enjoyable than it sounds) and moxibustion (v relaxing and also enjoyable). Turned by 37 wks.
