I am 29 +3 with dcda twins (first pregnancy) and all the way through i have been thinking about the delivery. A part of me would like to try for a vaginal delivery ( if twin a is head down) with the potential of having to have an emergency c section if things don't go to plan or can i ask my drs/midwife for a planned section? Do you have to have a medical/health condition specifically to opt for a planned section? Any advise would be great before i speak to the professionals and make myself sound silly 🙈 (i have also posted on the multiples board)

Anyone can absolutely ask for a planned section, in your case I suspect they would probably be more receptive than a single low risk pregnancy. But anyone can ask for elective they are just meant to sit down with you and discuss your reasons, see if there are any other options (ie if its anxiety based and they are able to help support a VB). 100% speak with your midwife/Dr at your next appointment and have a discussion.

No you can give birth the way you want to! I haven’t had twins but I would imagine with twins there’s a lot less resistance if you want a csection as I imagine the odds of needing an emergency section are higher than with a single birth. I had a planned section last time due to how petrified I was of giving birth. I did have a bit of a battle but mainly just from the midwives, who were keen to just keep delaying my decision and not letting me speak to a consultant. I ended up getting myself into such a state by 23 weeks when it felt like none of them were taking me seriously but I was finally listened to and given a consultant appointment. The consultant was completely fine, just went though the risks (they are quite scary when you see them written down but they don’t show you the risks of the alternative and bare in mind these are the risks of ALL sections including those in emergency situations, not just the nice elective ones).

I’d say weigh up your options and decide what you actually want first but if you do want a section there is a lot of info on maternal choice csections on the NICE guidelines and the birth rights website. My section was the best day of my life, it was so calm, so controlled and just everything I hoped it would be. I’m having another one this summer! 😊
