Going abroad at 7 weeks pregnant… would you?

We’ve been offered a last minute holiday to visit family (2.5hr flight) but i’ll be around 7 weeks pregnant when (if) we fly. This is my first pregnancy and obviously still in the very early stages where anything could happen. Nobody except my partner knows.

I’m worried i’ll feel sick / generally feel awful. At the moment I feel absolutely fine but aware that will change… what would you do?

@endofthelinefinally .. Your information about Ireland is out of date, the law was changed in Ireland in December 20th after a referendum repealing the ammendment to the Irish Constitution. The life of the baby no longer takes precidence over critical care for the mother.

That is good to hear. I don't know where OP is going, so it is worth checking.

I travelled consistently from 7 weeks up to 27 weeks then grounded myself. Why wouldn’t you? It’ll be a looooong 40 weeks if you don’t continue some of your normal life?!

I went to visit family at 11 weeks pregnant. I felt quite sick, but I would still have felt sick at home. The travelling didn't make it any worse. We took things easy when we were there and was a nice break.

Edit.. should say December 2018..

We're doing IVF at the moment and, if it works, I'll be six weeks pregnant when we go abroad. I have the same concerns about feeling ill (as I had terrible sickness with my son) but ultimately I really want to go away.

If I were you I'd take the holiday :)

I went abroad recently around 11 weeks preg and bizarrely my morning sickness did improve a bit! I also went away at 24 weeks when preg with DS and all was fine. I wouldn’t fly long haul though

Abacusporttaco · 01/05/2023 14:01

Why wouldn’t you go?

Also went away at 7 weeks pregnant - I did have a bleed whilst away but it was all fine and saw a Dr quicker than I would have done over here.

I’d go. To put it bluntly, if anything happens at that stage you can’t really do anything about it, so you might as well be on holiday. Just my opinion though, I understand that others would rather stay home for the same reason.

This. I would jump at the opportunity, holidays post baby are very different.

I went away at 7 weeks abroad and I miscarried also at 7 weeks

Outgrabe · 01/05/2023 14:07

I commuted internationally every week (two-hour flight) for my entire pregnancy until I couldn’t fly any more at 36 weeks.

Chocolateisnice · 01/05/2023 14:53

I went abroad on my honeymoon at 14 weeks, didn't think anything of it!
