Would anyone care to join me in a winge about how you are sick of your maternity clothes?

My normal wardrobe is pretty. I mostly wear skirts and tops and crochet cardigans and linen shirts.

For some reason my maternity clothes consist of jeans and cords and combats and I'm fed up.

I think most of the pregancy tops on the high street make u look like ur wearing a potato sack... and WHY are they all such drab colours... or that weird shade of blue. I want to look nice sometimes but i end up haveing to buy normal size 16 tops and i was 10/12 b4 i got pregnant seems like a waste of money... apparently IO are specially designed so you can wear them after you have had the baby... not sure how that works and its quite pricy but perhaps worth a try.

I agree - I hate everything in my wardrobe right now. Have been managing with normal clothes up til now- which are too big everywhere but the front, cos I've lost weight with being sick, etc - along with bump bands (Topshop do them for a fiver each). Gave in and placed a big order with Isabella O yesterday (wish I'd known about the 20% voucher first though, would have ordered in a few goes instead). The clothes are expensive, but the 2nd hand ones seem to go on Ebay for about 50% of the new price, or more. So whilst a £90 dress for a few months might seem a bit much, I've convinced myself that a £45 one (plus 10% mumsnet discount) is practically a bargain!!!

I am 40weeks + 4 days pregnant/ I am very sick of wearing maternity clothes! I thought i'd be on way to shedding some weight now and disposing of the maternity clothes soon but seems mother nature has other plans! Oh joy, still guess another few weeks won't hurt!

mitfordsisters · 22/02/2008 09:33

I look like a big baby in my maternity outfits and haven't worn anything but jeans, uggs and yoga pants for months. Have an Isabella Oliver dress in the wardrobe that I've worn once. I'm so impressed by you pregnant glamourpusses who are mainntaining standards!

My two successes which I still love though are bump bands in several colours and some tshirt dresses from AMerican Apparel which are very long and stretchy.

I've been really impressed with New Look maternity stuff this time round. THere's a massive one which sells mens and kids clothes too and I got carried away there last time I went.

I got rid of most of my maternity clothes after dd was born so had to start over.

I've been wearing skirts with boots, print smocky things with belts under the bump and a gorgeously cut dress from Topshop.

But agree with others - I cannot for love nor money find decent jeans that don't fall off. I've got 8 weeks to go.

My Blooming Marvellous ones (under bump) fall down and my Fun Mum (on bump) ones don't go round my bump anymore because I'm all out the front.

My maternity dungarees (H&M) don't fit over my bump, but fit everywhere else, so I've worn them twice - the one time you can get away with dungarees and I can't

Agree that bump bands can save most outfits and have been a fab investment for me.

These jeans have been my godsend and worth all the money i paid for them

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 11:42

But do they do them in a petite length?

Even my 'petite" Blooming Marvellous and FunMum ones have frayed at the back of the leg because they're still well over an inch too long. Grrr

Only my dull, dull, dull M&S black roll top trousers fit properly and are the right length, but they're so middle aged

walkingwomb · 22/02/2008 11:47

they have a short at 75 cm - is that petite enough?

pleasechange · 22/02/2008 11:48

walkingwomb - I have a pair of seraphine jeans but they fall down once i start to walk. Have you not have this problem with them?

walkingwomb · 22/02/2008 11:50

allnew - a little bit when they need to be washed but not really. I do wear a bump band quite low anyways so maybe i don't notice it as much

walkingwomb · 22/02/2008 11:50

mine are a size 12 -which i was before, so maybe the fit is quite snug?

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 11:53

Unfortunately I would need a 27 inch length (like a Next/M&s) petite and the Seraphine one comes up as over 29 inches which is close to "Regular" in a lot of high street shops

Thought might have been back in jeans for a min there (as long as I could bung them on Ebay afterwards!)

Speaking of which I'll have another nose there now.

pleasechange · 22/02/2008 11:53

Mine are quite snug around the bum but then still fall down (keep hawking them up but then camel's hoof is not a good look!). I'll try wearing a bump band low though like you suggest - am determined not to keep buying more clothes!
Thanks

I've finally given in and realised I need to go maternity clothes shopping tomorrow. This is my third and last pregnancy so don't want to spend loads. After every baby I have dropped a dress size so practically none of my old stuff fits me. Had a pair of Next size 10 maternity jeans I thoght were OK but they are huge on me (on the legs) so theres no way they will do.

So as well as Next and H&M where else should I go tomorrow, going to central Glasgow minus DDs so have good range of shops and time to try on, want to spend as little as possible as they are for 4 1/2 months only

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 12:10

Oh sweetkitty - neither the H&M or the Next in Glasgow do Maternity clothes anymore!! Or they didn't 2/3 months ag0 - I would phone ahead just in case.

Only Dorothy Perkins, New Look (the massive one on Buchanan St) and Topshop do them in Glasgow AFAIK. The big M&S in Argyle St might have a small selection but I'm not sure.

Zara might be worth a try, but again I don't know if it's only in selected branches.

The Next clearance store in Clydebank has looooooooads of maternity stuff though. Unfortunately last time I was in that part of the world I wasn't preg!

I was in the New Look at the Fort which was fab. there's a big Zara there and a Mamas and Papas (70% off sale atm) so that might be worth a trek? Asda have discontinued maternity now though - I'd been hoping for some bargains

sweetkitty · 22/02/2008 12:25

thanks bobsmum - been to the Fort recently (it's our side of Glasgow) wasn't really that impressed with the range in Topshop or Next really. I think Argyle street Next still has some maternity stuff. Gutted about H&M as well. Looks like New Look might be my best bet hopefully I will get something half decent.

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 13:15

Yeah - I agree about Next and Topshop being quite disappointing - unless you want maternity hotpants from Topshop Topshop bump bands are good and that's about it IMO. Next is just boooooring and a bit elderly for my taste.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/02/2008 13:18

Glad I'm not the only one that has been struggling with jeans. I've got some Seraphine ones but I'm always having to hitch them up - I haven't got the energy to wear them at all now.

I did get a pair from Topshop and from New Look this week, both of which have stretch side panels plus adjustable button and they seem a bit better. Haven't yet tested them with a good walk round town though.

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 13:20

Saw that New Look doa maternity version of their Hula jeans which are my most vfavourite 'normal" jeans. If I thought I could justify another pair with due date so close I'd be very tempted
