Do frank breech babies ever turn?!

My baby is frank breech (feet up by her ears, and hands up there too on the last scan!) and that has been her preferred position since about 28 weeks (currently 35 weeks). Got a midwife appointment next week to see if she has turned, but I've got doubts she will have as seems to have stopped trying to turn down (she used to get about halfway before pinging back up). So my questions are:

  1. has anyone had a frank breech baby that has turned head down after 35 weeks?
  2. has anyone attempted an ECV with a frank breech and did it work? I know they are normally less successful than a full breech.
  3. if you did go the ECV route, did you have any complications from the procedure? Many thanks in advance - my first baby was lovely and simple and this one is causing havoc!

I did with my second! I was about to ask if this was a second + baby for you. My understanding is STM are more likely to have breech babies in late pregnancy, but they're also more likely to turn and turn later. OOI is your placenta anterior? Mine was, which I felt was a contributing factor.

  1. Baby was frank breech, which was picked up by scan at 36+1. At every midwife appointment prior they'd said cephalic, but never sounded 100%. I had extraordinary heartburn, which I hadn't had with my first, which was explained by the head sticking into my stomach! He turned naturally by himself sometime around 36+5/6. I couldn't tell you exactly when, but it was confirmed at scan at 36+6.
  1. I was scheduled in for an ECV at 37+2, which was obviously not needed. However, as I had pre-eclampsia, there was murmurings that I wouldn't be allowed one. I was very grateful he turned. I thought frank breech was easier than the other types of breech to turn though.
  1. Can't answer personally, but I work in obstetric theatres on the ECV clinic days. I can count on one hand the number of women who have needed to come to theatre for an emergency C-section after an attempted ECV over the years.

Best of luck! Hopefully your girl will turn naturally. My boy had his ankles up by his ears for the first couple of days, and no problems this far with his hips. He is however still causing havoc on the outside 13 months on!

Ahh brilliant, hopefully she does then! No, posterior placenta so not sure why she hasn't spun around yet. Omg, the heartburn is unreal!! Not that surprising though when I can feel her rock hard tennis ball head bobbing around 😂 and that's reassuring too re the emergency c sections - it's hard figuring out the best options.

Very reassuring to read. I'm nearly 34 weeks with a stubbornly breech baby. They're trying to turn but keep pinging back up. I'm a STM with an anterior placenta so maybe those are contributing factors. My first was cephalic from something like 20 weeks.
I've got acupuncture and osteopath booked and am doing my best to sit upright, spend time on all fours etc. Still hoping for my home birth 🤞 at the same time I'm also telling myself that baby is helping to write their own birth story. If a c-section is necessary, that's what we'll do and that's ok too.

Just a quick update - without me noticing (only found out due to a growth scan for reduced movements) she has gone head down around 35+3. And is now so head down that they were unable to measure her head 😂 hope yours turns too @UnicornRainbowSky !
