Help! Worried FTM - midwifes appointments

Hi All! This is my first thread, so sorry if I'm rambling!

I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant and a first time mum. I had my 28 week appointment with my gp midwife yesterday. I'm really anxious as they've missed so much and I'm worried they could have missed something and my baby is it at risk.

During the booking appointment I discussed family history of diabetes. My dad died due to type 2 diabetes complications and every member of my family aged 50+ has either prediabetes or diagnosed type 2 diabetes. I also have PCOS which puts me at a higher risk for gestational diabetes. The midwife at the time told me I'd have two checks for GD due to this. I haven't had one yet. The midwife at the 28 week appointment went through the checklist and noticed I had no results and told me to book one in but from what I've read it should be done before 28 weeks not at 30+ weeks.

To add to this anxiety I haven't had baby measured since my 20 week scan. So now I'm even more anxious that I have a big baby and I won't know about it until its potentially too late.
Is there anyone to contact about this? Mu midwife is only at the GPs on a Monday and Tuesday and even then impossible to get a hold of unless it's a prebooked appointment.

Thank you!

It's fine to have the glucose test before 32 weeks.

And please don't worry about a big baby, people give birth to 11lb babies all the time and some without a graze!

If you're feeling well so far, please don't worry unduly. Gestational diabetes is usually just treated with diet and lifestyle changes anyway x

My very recent pregnancy experience has been that nothing gets done, and everything is brushed over, unless you really push for it.

I’ve been shocked at how bad things are compared with my first pregnancy 3 years ago.

I don’t know anything about diabetes or big babies, but I do know that some fairly serious stuff would have been missed for me had I not done my own research and pushed for it.

I strongly encourage you to do the same, and it makes me really worry about women who can’t advocate for themselves.

I’m sorry you’re having this experience with your midwife care. If you can afford it, I would book a private scan to calm your anxiety. I’m a FTM and booked a private scan at the start of my third trimester as I wanted more reassurance than the standard NHS scans. I believe mine was around £70 but worth every penny. I have friends with PCOS who had their gestational diabetes check at 30/32 weeks so I do not think you’re too late at all although completely agree that you should have had an earlier check x

Couldn't agree with @Saffronn more, but in this case I don't think you need to be panicked.
