Hi!

Currently 27 weeks pregnant.

Long story short, my partner made a dish with four chillis last night and he clearly didn’t listen to advice when I told him not to touch the fucking seeds. He’s Italian and spicy food is barely in his repertoire.

Anyway, cut to this morning and he starts touching me down there, and I started feeling the burn immediately. Told him to stop and I started crying, not because of the pain but through fear. Could this hurt or cause lasting / permanent damage to my baby , or is the mucus plug keeping him safe and sound?

sorry for the stupid question I’m just in a tizz and too frickin embarrassed to ask the MW.

I washed with cold water straight away. The burning has really receded at lot, im still feeling some discomfort, but more than anything im worried and I want to kill my partner. Bellend.

Says he did wash his hands after but I don’t know how welll. I know chilli residue can be persistent. Fucking capsaicin.

Any one know anything?

thank you
xx

Your baby will be fine. Have a rational think about where the baby is. 🙂

fairgame84 · 21/04/2023 08:18

It won't harm the baby, she's well protected by your closed cervix, mucous plug and amniotic fluid.

He needs to learn to wash his hands properly before he starts touching a newborn with his chilli fingers.

tinselandjoy · 21/04/2023 08:20

Your baby will be absolutely fine.

The fact your DP thinks it's alright to start fingering you having not washed his hands properly from dinner the night before is grim.

BamBam91 · 21/04/2023 08:20

Aw thanks both! I really appreciate it. I’m banning him from cooking with chilli forever now!

Love xx

Slap some plain , natural yoghurt on yourself,it'll take the sting out.

Chilli doesn't dissolve in water, only fat. Get some butter or oil and spread over the sore area liberally. Wait a minute or two then wash thoroughly with soap.

BamBam91 · 21/04/2023 08:21

@tinselandjoy he says he did. I might interrogare him further.

Baby will be fine. Apply full fat yoghurt.
Chew something minty, helps with pain receptors.

BamBam91 · 21/04/2023 08:28

@Whataretheodds Thanks! I have mint as I drink it as tea all the time!

Chilli is a nightmare to get off - he’s likely telling the truth.

Capsaicin doesn't work that way. Washing hands normally doesn't remove it all. OP explained that her partner doesn't normally cook with spicy food. It was a mistake. I doubt he was trying to harm her on purpose. What I am more concerned about are women that worry about such ridiculous stuff like this hurting the baby. Just how can it, logically?

Utini · 21/04/2023 08:33

I wear gloves for chopping chilli, I used to wear contact lenses and discovered the hard way that it's impossible to wash off completely with soap and water!

I am the most sensible person alive normally but when I was 5 months pregnant I convinced my self I wasn't pregnant at all and it was all a dream. I took a pregnancy test which didn't work (do they only work when you're early days pregnant?) which convinced me even more that I wasn't pregnant. It wasn't until dh rolled his eyes at me when he got in from work and reminded me of the scan we'd just had that I came to my senses. Sounds like the OP just had one of those moments and she panicked.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 22/04/2023 01:43

Hope you are okay OP.

For the burn feeling, I would soak in Milk or a sitz bath in Milk diluted I'm water.

Washing hands well after chillies doesn't always get it all away as per PP
