Hi

I have very bad itching on my whole body. During the day it's there but not as bad.but at night I go mad scratching so badly like crazy. I got rash on my back because of it. I'm crying now coz I can't live like this till my due date. I'm hardly sleeping. Every 2 weeks I'm doing blood test and I don't have obstetric cholestasis as my bile acid levels were okay. But a level is raised from the liver function test. Midwife said my levels are coming down. But I still itch so hardly every where. I'm also taking allergy tablets and using lotion. Nothing is helping. If I speak to Midwife and ask that I want Baby delivered early will they agree?
I heard with cholestasis they induce early but since I don't have that they won't take it seriously. I can't explain how my nights are going soo difficult. Is anyone else experiencing something similar.
My sister had itching in her pregnancy but only on her stamoch that was after 30 weeks. Mines started way too early. My hubby is saying maybe I sometimes eat spicy food.
Is there any advice from anyone 🙁

Found out at my 20 week scan that it's a boy. Don't know how accurate that is. Sonographer did say 99% it's a boy.
I heard from my mum itching occurs on Body during pregnancy when your having a baby boy. But don't know how true that is.

I was going to say that a lot of people told me it can be to do with carrying a boy too but didn't want to say that incase you were wanting a surprise!

Sorry I don't have an help for you!

Princess2022 · 22/04/2023 21:29

That's fine 👍

I had intense itching during pregnancy. It was dismissed as just one of those pregnancy things. It was actually HELLP syndrome and my liver was not functioning. It's really dangerous.

Make sure you are checked for that. They see it with high protein in your wee and high blood pressure. It's to do with pre-eclampsia.

Princess2022 · 22/04/2023 21:46

Hi PattyDuckface
My blood pressure has been fine. In the early weeks it was bit low at times but I heard that is also common in pregnancy.
I have read that itching goes away after baby's born so I can't wait for that time.

When I had my eldest nearly 40 yrs ago no one could tell me why I itched so badly. Tests all came back clear.
In Labour, an older midwife looked at me knowingly and said "ah, the toxic rash of pregnancy..." and said she had seen it many times in mothers with dry skin.

oliveroses · 22/04/2023 22:29

@Princess2022 just to say that I had cholestasis in my first pregnancy and it drive me insane, I'm so sorry you are itching so early. I know you don't have that and the doctor said lotions wouldn't work but like another pp I was given some menthol lotion and it was honestly amazing. Is that worth a try?

But yes, the second my baby boy was born the itching just disappeared instantly, so that is something - other than meeting baby of course - to look forward to! Hang in there x

Thethingswedoforlove · 22/04/2023 22:41

Have you looked up PUPPP rash @Princess2022 ? I had that too (carrying a girl). It was awful. Sending thoughts and sympathy.

Princess2022 · 22/04/2023 22:47

Hi oliveroses
Can I buy menthol lotion without prescription

bowzen · 22/04/2023 22:49

Ive had itchiness since approx 20 weeks. (Now 34). Im reviewed every 2 weeks and have my bloods done/urine/BP and baby movements checked to monitor for potential ICP. I take piriton every night and use prescribed aqueous cream which helps

Princess2022 · 22/04/2023 22:52

Hi Thethingswedoforlove

Hi woodhill
My close ones are telling me to just stick to Cotton clothes. And take a shower using dettol to calm the Itchiness. Don't know if it's safe to use on whole body. I don't want it to irritate my skin more.

I had the same with my DS, I fell for you OP. It got 10 x worse when I went on holiday, probably a combination of sun cream and sunshine. I went to a chemist (US) and they said nothing I could have as pregnant and sent me away. I believed them and cried the whole 9 hours home in agony. When one part of my body stopped itching the next would start. I was looking for anything cold to roll on my skin for relief, it felt like my skin was on fire. Ice melted straight away and the airline staff were less than sympathetic when I asked for more. 😩
I went to a chemist when I got home and they said I was fine to have an antihistamine, worked almost instantly and I cried with relief instead! I had a couple more over the last trimester of my pregnancy but it never got so bad again

oliveroses · 22/04/2023 23:20

@Princess2022 I think you might need to have it prescribed but the details of what I was given are below in case a healthcare professional is willing to give this a go on your behalf!
Aqua Soothe, 1% menthol aqueous cream.

I'd definitely say don't use Dettol, try oat water for itch. Dettol can make it worse as you don't know what causes it and can make it worse as you're taking oils etc off your skin. Scratching can brings hives to the surface, that's what's happened on your back. Try to drink plenty of water also. Hope you're doing ok

I'm glad I'm asking for advice on here. Things that I'm not aware of I'm finding out about it here

I often take an antihistamine (loratadine). My midwife told me it was fine, but best check first. Perhaps you're allergic or intolerant to something. I think eggs can make me itch so I abound too many. I use sanex body wash and no scented creams.

blahblahblah1654 · 23/04/2023 02:45

I can only use fairy washing powder/tablets too.

LadyJ2023 · 23/04/2023 02:50

I had that with twins and one of our sons. Advised anti hystemine had one daily and bingo all the horrible itching went away. Also could be a coincidence but pollen count has been high for a while also and that can create bad skin probs

Princess2022 · 23/04/2023 03:38

I think it could be washing powder maybe. When I put my clothes in machine I put towels and my hubby's clothes in it too so probably that's not a good idea.

AllTheWeatherAllTheTime · 23/04/2023 11:27

Oh, you poor thing, the itch is maddening, isn't it? I had ICP, so good you're aware of that and keeping an eye on it. Try wearing a long sleeved T shirt straight out of the washing machine while damp - it's amazing for itching. Good luck x
