Hi all. I have my first consultation coming up at the hospital for infertility, but I'm now pregnant (4+1). Can I still attend? I've had a chemical pregnancy previously so I'm obviously very worried about this pregnancy and think it might be wise to attend anyway. What do you think?

Congratulations OP!

I would let them know but try to keep the appointment if you can!

I was about to have a private consultation for recurrent miscarriage when I found out I was pregnant (I'm now 34 weeks), I let them know and they said they would be happy to see me anyway.

I went and had some blood tests done anyway and I'm on their radar if I was to ever struggle again with a full term pregnancy.

Wish you all the best xx

Congratulations!

Is the appointment an NHS one? If so I would still attend but not say anything.

TTCbaby2023 · 21/04/2023 11:46

@Charlielechat yes I would definitely still attend.

Marshmallowmountain · 21/04/2023 11:46

Definitely still go

Cherryblossoms85 · 21/04/2023 13:16

Doesn't make much sense to attend. They'll be doing blood tests which will quickly show you are pregnant and then I assume they would discharge you.

Suprima · 21/04/2023 13:27

Definitely go

The consultant might be able to prescribe some high dose folic acid, and perhaps progesterone given the chemical pregnancy and history of infertility

best of luck.

Go to it and tell them, you won’t get away with hiding it as they’ll do bloods and an ultrasound very quickly. I’ve been under nhs fertility care for over a year and have just got pregnant (through treatment) and they did say once you’re in their system if anything happens and you lose the baby you can pick up where you left off. Obviously I hope it won’t end for you but if it does then you should be able to go back and not have to start the waiting etc again. That’s how it works in my area anyway

allgoodthings84 · 21/04/2023 13:54

I would say something as they will find out very quickly anyway when they do bloods. You could go anyway and say you didn’t realise that you’re pregnant but same time they will likely know you knew as you would be checking as soon as you’ve missed a period (maybe even before) when ttc especially when wanting it so bad. So I would say something but explain your concerns

Thanks so much everyone. @Natpat81 yeah an NHS appointment! I was always going to tell them as soon as I arrived, but I was just scared that they would cancel it if I rang them beforehand. And as you said @Alexis7890 I'd worry that things might go wrong and then I'd be back to square one!

Yeah @Suprima I did wonder if she might recommend progesterone as well. I'm currently taking some natural cream just in case.

I will attend as normal and tell them straight away, but just won't ring them beforehand. Thanks so much for all your help!

Congratulations, I got my appointment the week before I got my BFP. I rang the clinic to get advice & they said to cancel it because it meant that I couldn't have any of the investigations done whilst I was pregnant.
