Hi everyone!

First pregnancy and first post on here!

I found out I was pregnant on 7th April (just over a week ago now) and I am absolutely delighted but a little nervous. I am 31 years old and in good health but for the past 3 menstrual cycles before conceiving I had had short and light periods which was unusual for me.

I thought something maybe be wrong and was following up with my doctor (who to be honest wasn't really interested and didn't seem to think any testing was necessary until a few more months had passed). I did manage to get a thyroid test which came back normal. I couldn't persuade a doctor to test for hormone levels. I did have a fertility check up privately back in September 2022 (7 months ago) and that came up as completely normal. However this was months before my periods became shorter and lighter.

Anyway, I am now pregnant (yay!) and just after I found out a week ago I started to get sore and sensitive nipples/boobs. I have had the odd twinge and cramp (which I now understand is also totally normal in early pregnancy). I also kept waking up at night hot. I haven't had spotting or bleeding and my discharge is normal.

Over the last few days though my symptoms have decreased and for the past 2-3 days my boobs haven't felt sore. I don't feel pregnant at all.

I have done pregnancy tests over the last few days and I am still getting positive results straight away but I don't know how much meaning I can draw from that.

I am going to book an early scan for next week (I will be 6 weeks + 3 days) but just feel so nervous. Has anyone else experienced symptoms but then they have stopped and restarted? I want my annoying sore boobs back :(

I think I am even more nervous as I was worried my hormones were out of whack even before getting pregnant.

Thanks in advance for any messages ❤️

The NHS wouldn't usually investigate any issues with TTC until after you have been trying 12 months without success so your doctors response wasn't unusual. I found my cycles changed once I started trying for my children, for example cycles that had been quite unpredictable became very regular. The fluid the sperm is in contains certain things that affect the female reproductive system.

Symptoms in pregnancy will come and go, change, disappear and new ones appear all the time. You can't start over analysing these things as they really mean very little and it will drive you mad. For example I had a missed miscarriage, my baby had stopped developing weeks earlier but I still had very strong symptoms and had no idea.

A scan at 6 weeks is very early, you should be prepared not to see a heartbeat at that stage and everything still being okay. Personally I'd book it at least a week later and then you should definitely see a heartbeat and it should give you a good idea of how things are progressing. Also if you are going at 6 weeks it will need to be a transvaginal scan most likely to see anything rather than a regular ultrasound.

Thank you so much for your response. I know I am my own worst enemy with overthinking things so I will do as you say and try to stop monitoring them so much. I am quite an anxious person at the best of times but I need to reign myself in I think!

I am really sorry to hear about your missed miscarriage. I hope everything works, or has worked, out for you. Thank you for your sharing your experience and advice ❤️

Yes thank you I went on to have successful pregnancies after my MMC. I also stressed constantly and symptom spotted etc so I understand how much it can drive you crazy (and it's very easy from the outside to say not to but very hard when you're living it.) What I would say is with kids the stress and worry never ends so it's good to find a way of managing it early on. I spent all my pregnancies worrying, then you worry when they're born, then as they get older you worry too! There is always something to worry about 😂

Good luck with everything

Symptoms really do come and go in early pregnancy. There’s no point testing constantly as even after a miscarriage you get a positive for about 3 weeks - though I can totally appreciate feeling the need to test! Pregnancy is the most stressful thing ever so don’t feel bad about overanalysing and worrying! Really hard to stop it.

Early scans can be good but obviously just offer a snapshot of that particular day - I lost my baby two days after seeing its heart beating fine on a 7 week scan. I’m not saying this to be negative, just that personally I wouldn’t get an early scan again as it gave us false hope.

Very best of luck for you xx
