Labour

I'm absolutely petrified to give birth again.
I had a fairly simple birth but it happened so fast my body was in shock. Got checked was 4cm and 1 hour later was pushing to get her out and had her all within an hour and a half after getting told I was 4cm.

How can I stop being so scared please anyone, any advice on how not to be so scared to give birth.

I don't really remember anything from my labour just remember it hurting really bad.

Anyone else feeling like this even though you've already had a child?

Can you talk to your midwife about a plan for an early epidural?

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 14/04/2023 09:39

I did hypnobirthing with my first and it really really helped. I also feel nervous again as last time was fairly quick and straightforward and now I'm worried this time it won't be x

I also had a quick labour, 3.5hrs, it was nice just at home with pool/gas&air but it was very intense and I am also a bit worried about no2.

Definitely will be planning another home birth as I couldn't have left the house if I wanted to the first time at that speed and if it's going to be quicker than that then I just hope I am at home when it happens.

I also did hypnobirthing and it helped a lot.

Sorry not very helpful but solidarity!

Yes l, I’m currently pregnant with number 2. My last birth was very quick, got assessed at 4cm and 5 minutes later was at 10cm and pushing. Went into shock after as it was so quick. Im going to speak to the midwife and see what they suggest.

I'll speak to my midwife and see what she says. I did want the pethidine with the first but by the time I was ready to have it I already give birth so hopefully they'll listen this time and try speed it up.

What is that? I've never heard of it. I don't know much about labour and things to do as my midwife was shit lol. Also didn't look up things to di for labour as I wasn't expecting baby to come so soon (5 weeks early)

That's what I wanted to do, but from my last birth I don't think they'll let me. I have to have a consultant as my baby was 5 weeks early but I've always wanted a home birth. I'll talk to the midwife and see if they could try work something out. Hopefully this time it will be the same and easy for us both. Congrats and good luck x

Oh wow. I thought mine was fast! I bet that was very shocking on your body! Think I'm also gonna do that and see what they say to do. Good luck and congrats

@ttc2603 it helps you to mentally cope with the pain and relax. I went to a one day course the lady was really good. There is a lot of science behind it. E.g if you are scared your body can release hormones that can actually slow labour down.

Also went through the best positions for your body to be able to give birth etc which is not laying on your back as they show on every TV programme. I really think it helped me. I didn't get to hospital until 8cm (covid so stayed home as long as I could) then had gas and air in the pool. There are pod casts etc on it as well. I also hired a TENS machine which was really good pain relief for the earlier stages x

@ttc2603 you can have a home birth if you want one even if you're consultant led.

I think with your previous precipitous labour they would probably support that option as long as you and baby are healthy.

My midwives are very supportive of another home birth for me as they said with a quick labour it's much safer to stay at home than risk baby being born in the car or the hospital foyer.

Of course if baby did come before 37 weeks you could just go in x
