Is anyone finding second trimester harder than first?

This may seem like a random post for most people! I was fortunate not to have the sickness in my first trimester just felt really tired! Now I'm in second trimester which is meant to be the best but I have found I feel super bloated and feel so much pressure on the lower half of my tummy! I also feel mood swingey and out of breath and have had a period of overwhelming smells! Has anyone else had this? I feel like I'm going mad as everything I read seems to say it's the best part! X

How far along are you @Mummy2B1983 😊 I spoke to my midwife about this, as I started feeling nauseous again in my second trimester and still super tired and grouchy!!!! And she did say people will say you’ll feel better in your second trimester; some won’t! And some will, but usually by 17/18 weeks, rather than straight away x

OP, I am 24 weeks and out of breath, exhausted, still waiting for that glow. Planning to work until the hilt, but dreading to think how third trimester will be like. First trimester was ok, just very tired.

@Izzie94x

Hi izzie I am going to be 19 weeks on Sunday. Yep I'm feeling a bit grouchy at times and just so bloated! I hope it gets better soon and hope your feeling ok! :) x

@DomesticElf

Hiya! Sorry to hear your feeling a bit rubbish too. :( I guess we are maybe just the few that get symptoms a bit later! I'm the same re work I want to work up to as late as I can but will see how I get on! Might not feel like it later on! I hope you feel better soon! :)

For most people, things get significantly better in the second trimester. Some poor souls get nausea and vomiting throughout, but they're a small minority. I feel like I have a constant bout of the flu for two months in the first trimester, then great in the second and third.

It's also not unusual for the nausea and other effects to slacken noticeably when the placenta kicks in at 10 weeks, return for a reunion tour in weeks 12-14, then fuck off for good.

@Mummy2B1983 im now 23 weeks but I probably found 12-19 weeks harder than the first trimester. Was really expecting symptoms and anxiety to lift after 12 weeks and suddenly look pregnant and glowing but I continued to experience awful exhaustion and just not feeling myself. Plus with no bump I just felt like I had no idea whether she was still in there or not. My exhaustion suddenly improved around 19 weeks and I started feeling her move, and got a bump so I’ve been finding it a bit easier (though still a challenge, dealt with non stop Braxton hicks a couple of times and reduced movements another time which have all been quite hard!)

I should say, it also really bummed me out that all pregnancy emails I received said something like ‘by now you should be full of energy and enjoying your pregnancy’. I basically think it’s a myth from what I’ve seen on here lots of woman continue to feel awful and it’s not helpful to be told we should be glowing!

I was the opposite, I had a horrible first trimester with tiredness and sickness until 14 weeks, so the second trimester actually was that great relief. Although it was in two parts for me, I would say weeks 14-22 were great in terms of no symptoms ( it was that normal I wondered if I was even pregnant). Then week 22-27 I started to get a noticeable bump, feel movements (which I enjoyed), have leg cramps and backache, heartburn, and leaking from my boobs at night. So I enjoyed the first part of the second trimester but not the second part.

I feel exactly the same OP! I was very lucky to have no nausea or sickness in the first trimester.. I would barely have known I was pregnant other than tiredness in the evenings. I'm now 18 weeks and finding it harder as my bump is growing and I get out of breath easier! I suppose for us lucky ones with few symptoms, the further we get, the harder pregnancy is, with a growing belly!
