Covid vaccine

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I have been thinking about the covid vaccine and whether I should get it. It’s my understanding that covid is most dangerous in the third trimester, is it the case that midwives recommend it for this time?

With my first I had whooping cough and flu vaccine at whichever point of pregnancy they were recommended, but this feels different.

I should add that I have actually already had my initial 2 covid vaccines, a booster, AND covid in Feb 2022. On the one hand I’m fairly sure I must have good immunity now, but then I know pregnancy makes you high risk and so if something was to happen I’d obviously be devastated. Saying that, I was so worried about covid (first born Feb 2020) and when we did get it, it was quite mild.

To those further on in pregnancy, what has been the general recommendation from your midwives about this?

Just giving this thread a bump - has anyone heard about eligibility for any booster as part of the general seasonal vaccine programme? I would have thought those pregnant would be eligible?

Pregnant people are not included in this autumn’s booster programme annoyingly 😡. I had it two weeks ago at 34 weeks, midwives weren’t worried at all but as I had it v badly the first time and then was bedridden with long covid for two years they said to come in for monitoring. It was like bad flu for a week but now me and baby fine

I thought I’d read pregnant women were to be given it at any stage in pregnancy.

Yes, pregnant women will be included in the autumn booster programme. They are included in table 3 mentioned here.

Midwife mentioned the covid vaccine at 8 week app a few weeks ago so I assumed it’ll be offered later down the line too…

Maybemaybenot76 · 17/08/2023 19:37

I’m guessing we don’t know when they will start giving it yet, so we? Likely in the next few weeks maybe?

I’ve had 2 emails from my sons nursery saying covid is doing the rounds, lots of staff of sick with symptoms too. Luckily I’ve kept him off for the summer holidays but I’m now dreading him going back.

I had the initial 3 doses AND then covid, but that was all leading up to Feb 2022, hoping I have immunity but who even knows. In two minds about the vaccine, but shares of covid as a preggo.

Great good to hear there are plans for booster availability, let’s hope to hear more about roll out soon.

Good news that pregnant ladies will be protected, and it gives your baby some protection for a couple of months after they are born too.

Un7breakable · 17/08/2023 20:00

It's being offered in October alongside the flu vaccine. Dr said they can be given at same time even if pregnant and this booster is designed for the variants currently circulating.

Drttc · 21/09/2023 13:35

Is ok to have the booster before 20 weeks? I’ve been booked in for it at 18 weeks…

BackOfTheMum5net · 21/09/2023 15:01

Yep - I got mine and the flu vaccine the week after I knew I was pregnant! (And had my healthiest winter ever)! Healthy bub currently asleep in my lap 😄

Maybemaybenot76 · 21/09/2023 16:43

I had both covid and flu jabs a few days ago. Frustrating timing as it looks like the newly adapted version may well be available in the next few days, but it is what it is.

Un7breakable · 21/09/2023 16:48

@Drttc Recommend for any stage of pregnancy. I'm booked in tomorrow at 18 weeks.

Drttc · 21/09/2023 17:42

Thanks for your reply! How many weeks are you?
