Hi,
would anyone mind sharing their scan images between 8-9 weeks pregnant? I want to book in a reassurance scan but would like it to give a decent image. So I’m curious to see what the variations are between 8-9 weeks.

TIA xo

I would wait until 9 weeks. The images I attached below are from 8 and 9 weeks give or take a few days. As you can see the 9 weeks one is much clearer, like a little gummy bear ☺️

Sorry can’t find my scan pictures to attach but at 8 weeks the baby was still very tiny and very round shaped. It was great for reassurance to see the heart beat but that’s all I needed from the scan.

I booked a private scan at 8 weeks and you can see the yolk sac and some little limb buds forming, lovely strong heartbeat too. I had another at hospital due to bleeding at 9 weeks and obviously they have better equipment but also baby was much clearer.

Here’s my little one at 8+6. I think it’s the sweetest one of all the scans I’ve had! I’ve always assumed that’s her arms crossed around her but could be totally
wrong!

Thank you everyone for sharing. These pictures are adorable ❤️ and congratulations to you all xo

Don't book a reassurance scan. I can tell you now that they are anything but. Have a quick search on here and you'll find so many women who've done it, and then spent a week or so panicking because their dates are off. At this stage there's not much to see, and it's really hard to date.

Besides, how long will the reassurance last? A day? A week?

If you've got pain or bleeding you can self refer to the EPU to be checked out.

FWIW I had scans at 6 and 9 weeks with both of mine due to bleeding. At the 9 weeks scans we did see a heartbeat but not a lot else. The main thing I got out of it was confirmation of the SCH which caused my bleeding.

@Twizbe i think it’s a personal preference. I had health issues pre pregnancy and early bleeding so had scans 5 and 7 weeks with NHS. I couldn’t have managed it all the way to 12 weeks without a reassurance scan, so for me it was very helpful to be able to check that the heart was still beating

@Twizbe I think id be in looney bin without the reassurance scans, having had a previous missed miscarriage it certainly did provide reassurance, you're right though it doesn't last long but it does let you know if things are going OK and that's really valuable

PickledScrump · 10/04/2023 08:11

@Twizbe i recommend a reassurance scan to everyone. Had them with 2 out of 3 of mine and they are amazing. Such a relief to see the heartbeat and everything is growing well. I always say wait until 8 weeks but they’re much better than doing loads of tests.

@Twizbe thanks for sharing!

For me, I agree with some of the others that I wouldn’t be able to make it to 12 weeks without one scan of reassurance in that time.

I have very heightened anxiety when pregnant. I have anxiety even in normal circumstances. So for me, it’s something that I can focus on that’s not so far in the future to keep me going and to get me through the days.

I had a scan at 8 weeks and one at 10 weeks when I was pregnant last time and I found they helped me a lot.

This time, I’m just going to try and have one at 9 weeks and then my NHS scan at 12 weeks!

I agree they don’t provide full relief of the anxiety for extended periods of time. But they do provide some relief!

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. All are very much appreciated ❤️

Having reassurance scans with the NHS and having a private scan is different. The point they're making is that the private scan can/will have different measurements and equipment that can cause panic and confusion for the mum who will then end up waiting for the NHS scan instead of paying for another private scan. With the NHS all of your information is there and they can see previous scans and information etc. It's always best to have reassurance scans through the NHS

Lhdale · 11/04/2023 01:33

@amummyy sorry my message wasn’t clear! I had scans 5&7 weeks with NHS and then wouldn’t have managed with nothing more until 12 weeks so had a few private reassurance scans. Yes they’re not as thorough but they show the heart is beating at least!
