Yes, it's very common. I took 150mg as i was high risk for preeclampsia. It's more effective if you take it at night.

Yes, I take 75mg of dispersible aspirin before bed as advised by the consultant. Apparently it aids the placenta. My last baby was small due to placental issues.

embarrassed23 · 07/04/2023 19:51

Yes I did I think it was 75mg a day. Can't remember why though

Ehc1989 · 07/04/2023 19:58

Hey, yes I’m on 150mg, but advised to start it the minute I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t know about taking it before bed though, anyone know if that is critical?

Skyeheather · 07/04/2023 20:09

Yes I did with my second baby, from 12 to 38 weeks, I can't remember why, something to do with me being over 40 and improving the flow of blood through the placenta I think. It was fine, there were no issues. Pregnancy and baby were fine.

indieray · 07/04/2023 20:10

I never took it in my first pregnancy but I was younger n it was 8 years ago. I now am on 150mg a day and blood thinner injections as I have a blood clotting disorder

indieray · 07/04/2023 20:10

I was told it absorbs better overnight

Aspirin is given as there is research that it reduces micro clots within the blood.

As pre-eclampsia is essentially the result of a stressed placenta, where demand of the fetus outstrips the ability of placenta supply.

It can help improve blood flow by preventing the micro clots that would otherwise block the incorrectly modelled spiral arteries. In PET, instead of being wide and open like toilet roll tubes, the spiral arteries are instead shaped like funnels.

The Road to Low-Dose Aspirin Therapy for the Prevention of Preeclampsia Began with the Placenta

The road to low-dose aspirin therapy for the prevention of preeclampsia began in the 1980s with the discovery that there was increased thromboxane and decreased prostacyclin production in placentas of preeclamptic women. At the time, low-dose aspirin ....

I'm under a recurrent miscarriage clinic and was told to take it at night. Switch to evening if you can.

Ehc1989 · 07/04/2023 21:05

Ok Noted thank you, will do that. Xx

Hiddenvoice · 07/04/2023 21:09

I was prescribed it and took it until my due date. I took it at night as it absorbs better but it also helps with any stomach pain you may get with it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/04/2023 21:11

I didn’t know you were meant to take it at night!

Been on it for both pregnancies from BFP to delivery because of recurrent previous losses though never found a reason why.

SnowSnow · 07/04/2023 21:15

I am on 150mg which was from 12 weeks for rest of pregnancy due to family history of pre eclampsia. My midwife however who did her dissertation on pre eclampsia said to take in the morning with breakfast

Sabrina200 · 08/04/2023 13:43

Thank you so much for advices xx

I've just found out I've got low PAPP-A (one of the hormones from the placenta) & been told to take 150mg, and the midwife said evening/after dinner was the best time.
The only ones I've found in the low dose so far are "gastro resistant", though, does anyone know if that's ok?

Dyra · 08/04/2023 17:16

I took it in both pregnancies. High risk for pre-eclampsia. 75mg in the first (guidance at the time), and 150mg in the second, which I believe is still the current guidance. I took it before bed, as it made me feel queasy for a few hours afterwards. Better to sleep through it than experience it.

As for the gastro resistant thing, it's because aspirin can be a cause of stomach ulcers. The resistance means the aspirin is likelier to start dispersing after it has exited the stomach.

APSR · 14/04/2024 20:54

Which aspirin is better dispersible or gastro resistant ? Is there any difference between the two in terms of absorption?
