I'm feeling pretty much constantly queasy. I've got an acupuncture appointment next week, but I have to survive until then. I'm getting to the point where the thought of eating more stem ginger makes me even queasier. Help me, please!!!

seabands - they're meant for motion/travel sickness and you can get them in boots - brilliant things. they're just like elasticated wrist bands that have a weep plastic lumo that sits on a point on your wrist

try eating a digestive/ginger nut the minute you wake up- i.e. have them ready by your bed

only things that worked for me were lucozade and beans on toast if you want to try them too lol

hope you're feeling better soon and the acupuncture works

or are the called travelbands? sorry I can't remember but staff in boots will know exactly what you're asking for

Drink lots and lots of water - if you have to throw up it makes it so much easier and less painful! I got it from week 8 to 17 and the seabands like dizzy sujjested really do work and it does get easier I promise.

ginger. You could get good ginger cookies like waitrose stem ginger cookies that actually has a lot of ginger in them or buy ginger capsules from a health food shop and take them. You may also just find a thing that helps you and you alone. I had morning sickness up to 18weeks and for about the last 3 or 4 weeks found mint really worked but was repulsed by it up to that point.

SauerKraut · 14/02/2008 08:54

Little sips of Coke always worked for me. And not the lite stuff or the one with no caffeine either- the real sugary caffeiney shit!

Carey87 · 14/02/2008 08:58

here here sauer!

You prob. don't have hyperemesis but the tips on the website are quite helpful (a friend of mine had it twice) as these ladies always feel sick hyperemesis org

MrsTittleMouse · 14/02/2008 10:07

I kept fig rolls by the bed (lots of carbs but no fat as fat made me feel worse). There were times when even going overnight with an empty stomach was too much.
To be honest though, there are ways of making things less severe, but I never found anything to actually feel better, IYSWIM.

piggyp · 14/02/2008 10:34

Main thing is not to get dehydrated - hot water and lemon, melon, cucumber, ice lollies and jelly worked for me.

Minkus · 14/02/2008 13:16

Labour and delivery

I'll second the tips on the hyperemesis website, has given me some great advice (in second hyperemetic pregnancy at the moment)

Like someone else has said, it might just be that you find one single thing really works for you even if it isn't a "tried and tested" remedy. Scratching and sniffing a lemon helped me feel a tiny bit better last time, this time it's mint. Good luck with finding your own "cure" xx

accessorizequeen · 14/02/2008 13:43

Poor you, minkus! I felt v.sorry for my friend last time, she was throwing up every day for 8 months! No wonder she doesn't want a 3rd. I think it must be extremely hard to cope with.

Roskva · 15/02/2008 09:16

Thanks for all your suggestions, ladies. I got some sea bands yesterday, and they seem to help enormously - I actually felt human yesterday afternoon, and a lot less queasy this morning.

There's no Waitrose round here , but I got some Duchy ginger biscuits, and some gingernuts. I can't stand the taste of coke, but tonic water seemed to help (is it OK to drink that when pg?)

Minkus, I really feel for you. A friend of mine had hyperemesis, and she was in a really bad way.

Ginger beer worked for me.

TheFallenMadonna · 15/02/2008 09:25

As an emergency nausea abatement measure I would sniff a lemon. Which I know sounds wierd, but did provide temporary relief.

duvetheaven · 15/02/2008 19:32

Glad you got the seabands. I found they helped too. I am 11 wks preg now and feeling much better than 6-10 weeks.
I ate salt and vinegar twists, baked beans and now I sometimes have Shreddies for 2 meals a day!
Hope you can take it as easy as possible its really tough.

dizzydixies · 15/02/2008 21:08

glad the seabands are working, if you don't like coke it was lucozade for me! first second and this pg!!

Alexa808 · 16/02/2008 10:50

I'm eating a small bowel of müsli just before I go to bed. That keeps the blood sugar high. Actually a recommendation from the book 'Mums on Pregnancy' which was taken from Mumsnet.

Always eat a bit every 2-3 hours to keep your blood sugar from dropping. Really works.

Nbg · 16/02/2008 10:53

Eat little and often. Plain as possible sometimes.
Things like Rich tea biscuits etc.

I also found sucking on plain ice cubes and drinking lots of water helped.
I could also eat fruit which if you can stomach that, it will help alot.

Paranoid1stTimer · 16/02/2008 14:55

I couldn't keep a thing down - especially not plain old water. That would really make me throw up!!!

I went through gallons of Lucozade but did worry about the whole caffeine issue... then I moved onto full fat, full sugar, full hyperactivity coke. It's up to you though since it is full of caffeine and a lot of pregnant women wanna avoid this at all costs but I was soooooo sick that I just went with what my body was craving.

I also got my hands on Slush Puppies as often as possible and lemonade Sparkle ice lollies as this seemed to help towards 18 weeks when it wasn't so much constant vomitting. Brushing my teeth really seemed to set it off at first which was a nightmare!

I got the travelbands too and thought they weren't working.... until I took them off. They worked all right!!!!

Hope it passes soon. LO will be worth it!!!

mamamufin · 16/02/2008 15:22

Hi ladies
Thank you sooooo much for all of your tips. I am going to work my way thru each one. I am nearly 10 weeks pregnant and am suffering from the worst ms possible too. I have been totally floored by it. The actual being sick I can cope with but its the feeling nauseous 24/7 that is really getting to me. I am unable to work because of it. Did/is anyone else having to take time out from work? I feel really guilty but just managing the easiest of things is like an uphill struggle.

Diege · 16/02/2008 16:11

MAMAMUFFIN don't feel guilty about taking time off work. I also had to be signed off work with hyperemesis (7 weeks) and felt very guilty too; even had boss ring up asking when I was back as I was letting the 'team' down . Nice man. TBH, you could break your leg and be off work, and if you can't function anyway, it's not as if you could do much anyway (the small of ink on paper made me vomit - even sudden noises too!). It WILL pass, but I know how hard it to believe that when you're in the midst of things. I'm planning no.4, and it's actually the sickness and how best to deal with it that is determining when we start trying!

mamamufin · 16/02/2008 16:28

Thanks Diege, you have made me feel better. My job involves alot of driving and I realise that its completely out of the question as any motion has me retching. As does talking/ walking or any other daily activity really. Where you sick with all of your babes. I only had a tiny bit with my ds, I could carry on as normal really. Just wondering why this time round is so different. The memory of the ms must fade if you are planning number four. At the moment I am saying never ever again.

Diege · 16/02/2008 16:44

Well, I had hyperemesis with dd1, bad but bearable (ie. I could go to work) with dd2, the worst hyperemesis with dd3, and pretty worried it will be bad with no.4 too. It's horrible to plan your family around throwing up! I certainly said 'never again' when I was pregnant with each, so it must have faded . I have accumulated knowledge about 'remedies' though - acupressure band give me sore wrists, the Morningwell CD made me more sick than ever (so it does have an effect of sorts!) and the only thing I could stomach was dry bread rolls filled with chippy chips and gravy. That was towards the end of the sickness - before then, it was just the odd nibble of a rich tea. I used to get very cross when people told me to eat ginger biscuits! I do think I'm going to go down the drug route next time, and also try acupuncture. At least with me (touch wood) is seems to lessen at around 13 weeks or so, and then I feel great!

Diege · 16/02/2008 16:44

Oh and to add, as you may have spotted the common theme to my pregnancies is that they were all girls, so you might find you have a daughter!

3Ddonut · 16/02/2008 16:48

I was going to suggest the seabands but see I have been beaten to it. I haven't read all the messages, but I found that I 'fancied' one thing, sometimes fruit, sometimes crisps, just go with whatever... also fizzy drinks, little sips, I think it's a bit lighter on your stomach, and eat little and often every 2 hours, whether you're hungry or not, as sickness is always worse when your stomach's empty.

I was most sick with my girls too
good luck, thinking of you.
