I know am not allowed alcohol (sigh), caffine, shell fish, excessive tuna, Mr Whippy ice cream, alcohol (still sighing), unpasturised cheese and pate

but................. can someone please tell me does philidelphia count?!?!?!?!? spreadable boursin?!?!?!?!?!?

(have silly cravings and determined not to give in before I check )

Ooooo! Goody! At last some good news - DH will have to clean the oven.

ThePFJ · 14/02/2008 11:26

Something about using it without gloves.. and you should avoid changing litter trays for cats as well if you have indoor cats. Let your partner do it. :O

Ok Lolli.. breathe.. it'll be fine. Are you throwing up exorcist style? With mushy pea effects and projectile targeting? No?
Then its ok.

Just watch out for prawns in hoodies knocking at your door in the next 5-7 working days.

xx

McDonalds use pasteurised milk for their McFlurrys and milkshakes, and are pretty good about cleaning equipment and the like (not really good publicity poison people!) - so fill your boots with those.

I admit to eating pretty much everything while I have been pregnant - except blue cheese for some reason.

I have had (in moderation of course) peanut butter, caffeine, alcohol, prawns and soft boiled eggs (I just love them toooo much). My thinking is that I have never had salmonella / listeria before from any of these danger things, why would I get it now? surely you can be just as unlucky and get it from cross contamination in a restaurant kitchen or something - even if you are eating something perfectly 'safe'?

I do understand that it's about reducing risk mind, and wouldn't eat any of those things from somewhere that looked a bit unsavoury, but then again, I probably wouldn't do when I wasn't pregnant either!

Common sense surely?

(can't stop thinking about chocolate McDonalds milkshakes now - damn you all )

MrsBadger · 14/02/2008 11:38

tallbird, the only thing re listeria is it is much more dangerous when you're pg than when you're not, so it's worth being more cautious than normal on that score.

lollipopmother · 14/02/2008 11:42

Apparently at the best of times it's very toxic, when you're pregnant it's a big no-no. I just looked in the leaflet thing that I know I saw it in but I can't see it now, I'll take a proper look later so I can be a bit more specific.

lollipopmother · 14/02/2008 11:48

Oh my last post is re the oven cleaner, I not only used it without gloves, but I also got it in my hair/head and didn't wash it for two days!!

As for the prawns, mine were definitely loitering hoodies, I did my bit for the community and cleared them off our streets!

ThePFJ · 14/02/2008 11:53

Hehehehehe

MrsTittleMouse · 14/02/2008 11:58

Bit of a spod-y thing to know, but the big deal about Listeria is that it can move directly from cell to cell. That's very unusual, and it means that the normal barriers that protect the foetus from bacteria in your system can be overriden. (sp?)
I know that people in France tend to ignore the pate/Brie thing and that most of them are just fine, but it isn't something that I want to risk.

As I said before, I'm going to Egypt at the beginning of April and I am absolutely shitting bricks at the thought of their food, if I don't get the squits I'd be amazed, I think I'm going to take a suitcase of English food and just eat that!

MrsBadger · 14/02/2008 12:31

pfft, you'll be fine in Egypt - good hotel food, or hot street food cooked in front of you is usually safe anywhere in the world - it's the local 'western-style' burger/pizza/steak restaurants that are usually the dodgiest.

If you're really worried, go veggie for the duration.

Hey, ladies i think as a nation we've gone potty on what not to eat when your pregnant! i have 3 girls each 4 years apart so each time i was pregnant the Dr told me a different list of what not too eat! Me being the pig headed woman i can be (if i choose to) decided to ignore the list and eat a little of what i wanted (My girls are healthy and get this have NO ALERGIES) the other side of my argument surely if we take away these foods the baby'e can't build up their imune system??????
I'll get off my soap box now!
