Hi, im looking on here in the hopes someone’s got some advice for me, I’m 18 weeks 5 days with my first baby, I’m 20 years old soon to be 21, been trying for a few years for a baby this was natural conception and since the start I’ve had pain (now I completely understand this is normal I mean you’re growing a human of course it’s going to hurt) however…..since around 18 weeks I wake up with pain so bad I can barely move, around 60% of the time when I have a shower I have to sit down because it hurts so bad, walking alot and doing barely anything around the house hurts so much, I’ve definitely at times had pain due to wind and gas etc I’m familiar with this and know it isn’t I’ve expressed my concerns with both my midwife and antenatal triage centre and they take me seriously until I say it’s my first baby. Im at a lost cause on what to do. My placenta is posterior and I was told I’d likely feel movements early because my baby boy moves around a lot (seen on ultrasounds) but I concentrate really hard every night, morning and lots throughout the day and nothing absolutely nothing for the past 3 weeks, my instinct is telling me that something is wrong but my antenatal at the hospital won’t see me they think im over exaggerating I don’t know what to do im scared I will lose my baby

Can you be more specific to them about the type of pain? Where it is, whether it's acute/sharp or achy or hot. I know that sounds silly, but it might help them to understand what you're experiencing better. Don't let them fob you off because you're a FTM/younger. Say its causing you extreme anxiety and affecting your ability to work/your safety (fall risk in shower) and you want an answer. Pain on that scale doesn't sound normal to me. I wouldn't worry about the movements though - if you're feeling a lit of pain, you might not notice the first movement feelings. They can be very hard to identify the first time, and often feel very like gas bubbles or similar. Hang in there OP and don't be afraid to push for answers x

MelissaM26 · 03/04/2023 07:20

Yeah I totally get that. I’ve really gone into detail about the pain it’s something my mothers always taught me to do since I was young I’ve gone over exactly where, the patterns in the mornings and the not so pattern of it during the day and how it’s also extremely sharp through my uterus and lower stomach most of the time but sometimes upper and I’m trying with them but I don’t know what else to do they just think I’m over exaggerating but what do I do if something’s wrong with my baby and they don’t help me, I am scared and these are the people I’m supposed to trust with mine and my baby’s life and how can I do that when they won’t listen, I’m supposed to put my trust in them but I simply can’t and I just feel like something isn’t right :(

Theres nothing they can do but wait. They can't scan you every day to see whats going on, and even if they did what would it achieve? Sadly pregnancy is one long and painful waiting game.

I had all manor of pain throughout my pregnancy and was bleeding and lost my plug 3 times. I was exposed to covid, shingles, flu... But nothing was done because theres not really much that can be done.

My baby was very active and i didnt feel anything until nearly 20 weeks.

If you are that concerned pay private for a reasurance scan.

MelissaM26 · 03/04/2023 08:02

Respectfully I understood what you’re saying but at the same time I’m not asked to be scanned everyday, and I would completely disagree with you, yes pregnancy is long and painful but unfortunately such things like placental abruption, the cord being wrapped around babies neck and tons of other things can happen, in no way shape or form an i saying that any of these do or will apply to me and my baby but to have my thoughts, fears and feelings completely disregarded like they don’t matter is awful, im supposed to trust my hospitals and midwife team to put me in their best care, and yes there are lots of things that can be done that don’t include scans, like checking for the heartbeat, going to actually talk to my midwife but they deny me all of this I personally feel that something is not right and they will not listen to me that is the problem and im fearful for my baby if I lose this baby I cannot have IVF for 2 and 1/2 years and im not sure on what you’re personal experiences are but as others would also be aware trying to conceive for a baby for years is painful in itself and if anything happens to my baby because the medical team did nothing but shut me down then I will be at a lost cause as im sure it’s happened to many others and I cannot begin to even think how they feel and what thyeve been going through

Can you pay for a private scan OP to reassure you?

HVPRN · 03/04/2023 08:15

Sorry you're anxious and going through this.

Can you call your local EPU today, explain your symptoms these last five days, and explain it has not eased up so you need a scan asap. Or ring your midwife again and explain you need a well-being check (to include HB check)

Did you notice regular movements before this pain started?

MelissaM26 · 03/04/2023 08:23

I’ve noticed absolutely no movement at all, I know everyone says especially when it’s your first that it can be even after 20 weeks but lots of people around me have said usually I would have felt butterflies and every morning and night for at least a few hours each time plus during the day I concentrate hard and I’ve tried lots to try and make him move and because I have a posterior placenta I hoped I would have felt him move by now but I’ve not felt a thing other than pain I want to pay to have a private one done but in all honesty I don’t have the money at the moment as it’s around £60 and I’m not making excuses but it would be at least a few days until I could even think about getting the money I just want the pain to ease off as I’ve noticed this morning I’ve had a constant dull ache in the middle of my stomach now too aswell as the lower back pain

Is your partner on the scene, OP? Are you getting support at home with the things you are struggling with? It's definitely not uncommon to not feel anything at your stage with a first pregnancy, so please don't worry about that element. RE your care team, I would see what the route for accessing the EPU is in your area, and I would ring your midwife again and explain that your mental health is suffering, your trust in them is being eroded because they're not listening to you and you need help. Have you got a date for your scan? That should be imminent at your stage.

hopsalong · 03/04/2023 08:57

The pain might not be anything to do with your uterus.

When I was about 20 weeks pregnant I had a horrible run of gallbladder attacks, probably brought on by pregnancy hormones but definitely not uterine. The pain was higher up than my pelvis but I could have described it as the middle of my stomach.

If the pain is really that bad then I would go to A&E.

fairgame84 · 03/04/2023 10:11

I had really bad pain with dc2. I've got a really high pain threshold and it had me doubled over and feeling faint. I was 19 weeks at the time and triage wouldn't see me as there is nothing they can do at that stage. They told me to take paracetamol and have a warm bath which did actually help. My midwife said that triage won't be interested in pain unless it's accompanied by bleeding before 24 weeks as there is nothing they can do.
I was lucky as I was feeling movements from 18 weeks with dc2 so I knew she was ok in there.
I had it a few more times and saw the emergency gp, they said it was round ligament pain. It settled by around 26 weeks.

Even with a posterior placenta I wouldn't have thought you would feel movements until after 20 weeks so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

Sallyh87 · 03/04/2023 10:55

Hi @MelissaM26, really sorry you are feeling like this. I can’t offer any advice re the pain but I just wanted to add that with my first, I felt absolutely no movement until almost 23 weeks. No butterflies etc. I also had a posterior placenta. I recall having my 20 week scan and she kicked the front of my tummy, I could see it but not feel it. My two close friends were the same finally feeling kicking between 20 - 22 weeks.

Sounds like you have been through a real journey for this pregnancy. Hopefully once you have your 20 week scan your anxiety will start to ease a bit.

Whataretheodds · 03/04/2023 10:59

When you speak to your midwife/EPU what is their explanation for the pain, and what do they suggest you do.
When was your last scan.

Sorry that you are in pain

MelissaM26 · 03/04/2023 12:28

@Whataretheodds They’ve given me no explanation for the pain they said oh it’s just growing pains but I know I absolutely know that not all of this is down to growing pains they don’t take me seriously at all, and they just say take a paracetamol which I’ve tried but unfortunately it doesn’t work for me, usually tablets don’t I was taking high doses of Cocoidmol tablets before pregnancy but obviously haven’t taken any at all since becoming pregnant, my last scan was nearly 3 weeks ago now

pinkunicorns54 · 03/04/2023 13:55

Where is the pain? Can you describe it to us how you describe it to them?

Whataretheodds · 03/04/2023 14:03

was taking high doses of Cocoidmol tablets before pregnancy

Why?
