Fall at twelve weeks pregnant. Should I ring the midwife?

Hello,

I am twelve weeks pregnant and just home after I slipped and fell on the grass at the park. I'm not injured but DH has me worried as he thinks the baby should be checked over. I landed on my right side so my stomach wasn't included in the impact I don't think. Just DH got me worried. We miscarried last year so he's super protective.

I have my first scan with the NHS tomorrow anyway so not sure whether or not I should just wait and see how it goes or to let my midwife know.

Anyone know what the right thing to do is? I've had cramps since but they are mild and I'm not in discomfort.

It must be so worrying for you but I don't think a midwife do anything today that can not wait until tomorrow.

I'm sure you'll be fine, babies are very well protected in the womb. But if you are really worried then speak to your midwife.

I fell on my bum when pregnant and went to a&e at Leeds for a scan
In and out was worth it for peace of mind

I slipped really badly at 25 weeks pregnant and landed on my left side with an absolute bang. Baby was totally fine. At 12 weeks they are very much protected, I am sure you are both absolutely fine Flowers

How did you get on? :)

CornishGem1975 · 03/04/2023 19:32

Hope you're okay. I fell down the stairs at 16 weeks pregnant. There's not a massive amount they can do other than offer reassurance but they did tell me that baby was pretty well cushioned in there so not to worry too much!

You're getting scanned tomorrow anyway. Talk thru when you would need checking over then. Basically, you'd have to cause yourself internal injuries. In most cases, you'd instantly know if fall was that bad.

I had loads of falls including tumbles off my bike when pg. Standouts were when I was 5m & 39 weeks. Never got checked. My offspring were all healthy full term now large & interesting human beings.

Thanks everyone!

Sorry I've been silent.

Everything looked OK at the scan yesterday. However I never got the chance to talk about the fall I had as we were late (got lost trying to find the department 🤦) so understandably it was rushed in order for her to keep up with her appointment times. We saw baby move and the heart was beating well.

This morning I woke to find I was bleeding. It's thought that I started before twenty past three this morning (I only know this because I looked at the clock before going to the bathroom) and didn't stop until around eleven. I went to the maternity assessment unit where they checked my urine for any infection but it came back clear. After that they performed a cervical exam. The doctor said the entrance to the Womb was closed which was a good sign. She wasn't sure where the bleeding had come from.

I was lucky enough to get an appointment for a private scan tonight and the Sonographer noticed there was a subchronic hematoma outside of the sac. She said it was likely that's what caused the bleeding. She wasn't altogether sure whether it had been caused by the fall though.

I'm sorry to learn you've had this stress, Phoenix. I feel compelled to say that if the pregnancy doesn't proceed smoothly as you hope, it's not your fault. I find women try to blame themselves if there are problems: even though pregnancy risk isn't like that. There rarely is a reason (much less a preventable reason) why a problem happened. Pregnancies just often do have spontaneous trouble and it's nobody's fault. That's why every milestone is a relief.

X fingers this is the last of your tense moments.

It's so stressful but could just be one of those things. I had an absolutely HUGE bleed at around 6 weeks. Heavier than a heavy period, bright red blood. They never found the source of it but the product of that pregnancy is now snoring in his bed 3 years later. It was scary at the time.
