Hollow hungry feeling all the time in 1st trimester

Hey everyone, 8 weeks pregnant. I know l'm not supposed to gain weight in the 1st trimester but I'm getting these hollow, acidy, stomach-clenching episodes where it feels like I haven't eaten in ages despite having eaten shortly before. Anyone experienced this before and have advice what can I do about it without constantly eating? I have mild nausea so food intake isnt an issue, it's just I'm tired of feeling ravenous and having stomach cramps from this hollow feeling when I barely have an appetite because I've just eaten.

Hi there. Had this since 8 weeks and am now 20 with no sign of this abating! I've been eating a lot of nuts, dried fruits, yoghurt, all bran cereal. I think basically aim to eat every two hours and make sure you carry lots of snacks!

@Ak5506 hi - I had this in my first trimester and ate everything in sight. Gained zero weight though oddly enough.
Made up for that in 2feel like and gain a stone even tho I the hunger had subsided.
Currently 36 weeks and feel like this is the most normal my appetite has been!

I just ate whenever I was hungry in pregnancy. I just tried to keep it healthy (although this also went out the window in the first trimester as there were very few things I could stomach - I regularly had crisps at 7am as salt and vinegar crisps were the only things that settled my stomach first thing).

Do gingernuts help? They were my go to for lining my stomach. Don’t worry too much about calorie counting, eat well and eat when you feel you need to. As long as you’re eating healthily it’s better than holding off if you feel you need something. Also second PPs who’ve said that if nausea/sickness is an issue then just eat whatever you can.

I had that with my 4th pregnancy. Pregnancies 1-3 I craved certain foods. Pregnancy 4 I just felt permanently hungry and, I'm afraid, ate for England!

On each occasion everything settled down at 12 weeks.

Ach I just give up and feed the beast! Had this in all my pregnancies. Put on weight in the first trimester each time, but still ended up the same healthy weight after pregnancy as I started, so I obviously needed it. Listen to your body, but wherever possible feed it nutritious things. I know sometimes haribo is the only thing that'll cut it though 😆 Just do your best.

I had this in my first trimester but it settled in the second.

I tried to make sure I was eating every couple of hours & things that were carby, high fat and high protein. I had a lot of avocado and almond butter on rice cakes and crackers & rich tea biscuits!

I have had this. I suspect some of it is because I don't have a lot of reserves, and I'm also very active most of the day, so my body needs a serious boost to have the energy to build placenta etc. I'm now 15 weeks and it's just easing off, though I still need to eat every couple of hours or I get nauseous/shaky (very, very low BP). Even with that, I lost 4 kgs between booking appointment and first scan. I've been sticking to fruit, nuts and things like rice cakes dunked in hummus or cream cheese.

What is your diet like and could you request a blood test for deficiencies?

It may be that you keep craving due to something missing from your diet.

Overall, growing a human is hungry work!
