Hi all,

I'm on my third pregnancy, 6.5 weeks in, and again suffering really intense nausea round the clock. I can just about stop myself throwing up by staying still most of the day, drinking very little, going to bed very early and huffing lemons through the night... Which isn't really any way to live!

For my 2nd pregnancy I discovered you could get medication and was put on cyclizine. It didn't take any effect but when I was told to go in for a blood test to check what to do next I felt so sick and hopeless I couldn't face it, which sounds ridiculous, but I think knowing that my partner is self-employed and around to pick up the slack I just let myself feel sorry for myself and stay in bed. This time I was prescribed prochlorperazine and it's equally ineffective. I was told in that first call to the gp that the next step would be to take that and cyclizine together if the prochlorperazine didn't work... I don't see how taking two ineffective medications together will help? Also, I don't know if it's coincidence but I'm sleeping better since I stopped taking the prochlorperazine. Lack of sleep was making it so much worse.

I can't really go the bed rest route again, apart from it being super depressing, I've got a 20 month old as well a 7 year old that need me. Can someone who's also had no joy with these medications offer some hope as to what did work for them? I'm starting to feel very desperate.

Hi, OP

I'm 15 weeks, l have also been suffering with nausea and vomiting. It's not HG but it's still horrible and very difficult to live with.

I also eat lemon flavoured things, lemonade, anything basically that is salty or vinegary. I eat beige food as it's the only things that don't make me feel nauseous.

I have also have a 2 yr old.

I haven't been to the GP for medication as l have never gotten on well with anti sickness tablets and l just can't stomach them. That doesn't mean that you won't, go back to the GP and talk to your midwife.

Good luck , l hope you find a solution

how about ginger beer- small sips even when it’s gone flat
Also arrowroot biscuits

Sound crazy but someone on mumsnet mentioned it and it's worked for me. Boiled sweets, like mint humbugs or sherbit lemons.

@Teatime1 I’ve no advice re: meds but on 3rd pregnancy here, 7+1 and the nausea has just started the past few days. On my last 2 pregnancies I used sea sick wrist bands and I found them quite good, I never took them off. Haven’t had a chance to pick them up from pharmacy yet but they’re on my list.

Also found ginger beer, ginger biscuits and boiled mint sweets good for easing the sickness a bit. OH has just gone out to stock up on these for me 🙈🙈
Hope it starts to let up soon. There’s nothing worse. Men do have the easy life 🙄🙄

With my daughter, I had nausea & vomiting from almost the day I conceived until the day before I went into labour at 39+2 weeks! Not HG, but had a lovely week stay on bed rest in hospital on a drip as I was hypoglycaemic & close to collapse.

Stem ginger tea & crystallised stem ginger chunks helped a little, so did ginger nut biscuits. Both recommended by my midwife; she said the sugar in the ginger chunks & biscuits would at least give a little energy boost even if you throw everything up later. No idea if this is a properly scientific thing, but at least it was more pleasant if the food wanted to come back & say hello as it were.

Hoping you get some relief soon.
