Giving birth at RBH Maternity Block

Just found out that we are no longer trying to conceive! Pregnancy test is positive and we are now thinking about where should DP give birth. Any experiences with Royal Berkshire Hospital? Google reviews don't sound brilliant, but I assume people write there when they are less than happy. So, any experiences?

It was over ten years ago now but I had a great experience there. Lovely calm midwife, pain relief when I needed it, excellent stitching (!! my GP commented at a check up afterwards how well it had been done), discharged reasonably efficiently. It was a straightforward natural birth though.

Hey! I’m due in June and all being well will be at RBH.
My half siblings were born there and their mum said she had an amazing experience each time.
I’ve been in a couple of times for reduced movement and they are so so lovely so can only say great things so far.

Thanks Teamladybirdladybird & firsttimelondonmummy !

Those two experiences sound reassuring!

@DerekDuvall i believe you can go and view the ward now, might be worth it if you are worried.
also a huge plus is the maternity lead care with the pools are in the hospital.
I wanted maternity lead from the start but in London you have to be transported by ambulance to hospital if you need a c section/ epidural etc as they don’t have the facilities in the separate maternity lead facilities.
I loved it’s all in hospital in RBH and that I can start (all being well) with a pool but should I need any intervention I’m in the right place.

Hi @DerekDuvall , I gave birth at RBH almost three years ago and am getting ready to do it again in a few weeks. My experience was very positive.

I had an induction so was on the induction ward first, then the delivery ward and due to some complications on the post natal ward for a few days. Staff and facilities were good and I felt very supported. Hospital food was better than my normal experience (still not brilliant but edible!).

Best of luck.

Thanks once more @Teamladybirdladybird, @firsttimelondonmummy, @Sallyh87!

We will call them and check if we can view! Pools sound like something for us to read about!

Sounds reassuring that you all felt well and felt supported.

If you're local to RBH I would consider frimley park personally. Exceptional in my experience with 2 c sections

My midwife was excellent at RBH, she now works in the birth centre at the hospital. I had a very straightforward birth though, so no interventions

Take food with you, I didn't get offered much at 9pm. A cup of tea 😬 I hadn't eaten for 12 hours.

The facilities and wards are a bit run down, packed wards, hotter than the sun in there, noisy.
