I am pretty much set on all of my birth 'preferences'. I know things don't always go the way you want them to during birth and labour but I feel I factored this in and I feel informed enough to make the decision (with my DH) at the time if needed.

The only thing I am still unsure about is if I should have the injection for birthing the placenta after birth ? I am asking for delayed cord clamping (Waiting until it is white), and everything I have read has said to have the injection after that time.

I just wanted to know peoples views and experiences with the injection for placenta birth ? Is is really necessary and does it help speed things along ?

Thank you x

2 births.

First had the injection, placenta didn't come. Had to go for emergency surgery 1 hour after baby was born. A lot of blood loss.

Second. Had the injection (after first birth I was high risk). Placenta came about 10 mins after baby.

I did not have the injection. I think the injection is mostly so that the midwives can be all impatient and tug on the cord without causing a haemorrhage. For mine, I did first cuddle and then some 15-20mins after birth, stood up for a wee stroll and the placenta slipped out on its own. Then I laid back down to get stitched up while they checked over the placenta to make sure it was whole & none was left inside me.

Glad you've made a choice that works for you.

I had the injection both times. With my second, the placenta came out before she'd even finished injecting me. I'm guessing I didn't really need it.
