Vomiting in labour - any experiences?

Have any of you current mama’s experienced severe vomiting during labour and/or managed to prevent it?

I had a relatively fast early labour with DC1 - from 3cm-9cm in 3 hours, but during this time I had chronic vomiting. Like every 15 min hurling. I lost a lot of energy and couldn’t keep down anything, even clear fluids.

I’m trying to prepare for the birth of DC2 and (this probably sounds crazy) wondering whether I can visualise myself out of vomiting. Part of me wonders whether it was partially a fear response.

Does anyone have any tips / thoughts on possible prevention strategies?

I had horrendous vomiting with my first, ended up on a drip for dehydration

No vomiting at all with no 2 and 3 (well except for a quick one after they'd been born!)

I think it's hormones rather than fear!

I also vomited my way through Labour with my first. She was very fast. In fact, I went into hospital on dr advice as had been vomiting none stop all day and couldn’t even hold down an ice cube. So went in for fluid and anti sickness.
waters broke as soon as I got in hosp reception but wasn’t contracting. This was about 10.30pm. At 11pm I was contracting and fully dilated. She was born at 11.34. Super super quick. I was told my sickness was my way of labouring.
my son two years later was also quick. Contractions started at 8am born at 10.30am but no sickness whatsoever the 2nd time.
good luck.!

Ahh thanks both so much for your experiences! Maybe it’s like car sickness as a kid, you both grew out of your labour sickness for round 2! I’ll keep my fingers crossed

Had a very fast labour with my first accompanied by vomiting, no vomiting with my second but labour was slower (6 hours with my first, over 24 with my second). Also I was a lot more calm with my second and doing breathing techniques so that might have helped

I did, caused by the gas and air. Didn't have gas and air for my second and no vomiting.

I was vomiting all through labour. My partner was instructed to go and get 5 bottles of lucozade by the midwife and we had a nice little routine of contraction, vomit, sip of drink, contraction, vomit, sip of drink - for hours! Anti sickness injections did nothing, but I don't mind being sick, and I quite liked the rhythm and routine of it all, weirdly. I think it gave me a sense of control somehow. I'm not sure you can visualise yourself out of vomiting but I'm sure it's worth a try!

It's more normal than people realise. Vomiting or nausea is actually a sign midwives will look for or note as a marker of labour progression

Yep. All the way through.
Thankfully they were both fast labours. 6hrs first contraction - birth for DS1. 2hours for DS2.
Don't think the paracetamol touched the sides as it came back out so quickly!
