hi dd is now 5 and i miss her so much since she started school, i feel really broody for another baby, although money is a bit tight and i need to convice dh.

what i wondered if any of you mums knew was, even as a sahm would i be entitled to claim anything like maternity allowence?
as that would make my dream possible?

or if i returned to work, how long would i need to work for, before trying for a baby
to either get employers materanity leave or maternity allowence

or what about if i did some sort of self employed work, how long would i need to do that for before being able to claim maternaty allowence

please, please help me make my dreams come true
i thought id ask in here as they may be pregnant sahms in here

am guessing the response on the other thread wasn't quite what she was hoping for so she's trying again!

If you are a sahm- you do not qualify for maternity benefits as you are not paying into the tax system and in many cases are transferring tax allowances to working partners and therefore are receiving some tax relief.

end of.

broodymummy · 13/02/2008 14:38

ill say it again, as you seem a tad confusseed preggers again
i thought id ask in hre also as pregnent mums may have more upto date information

i will be working self employed for 6 months, so i will be entitled to maternity allowence.

end of.

no- believe me i am not 'confusseed'- you are patronising.

You do not mention in your op that you will work for 6 months. Its quite simple and plainly explained all over the net, if you become self employed and earn over the threshold and have contributed enough mational insurance credits you are entitled to MA (but the revenue are also entitled to run a full audit before awarding MA- as they probably would in such a case to ensure that no-one is fiddling the system. A full audit will hold up your claim and any discrepancies will result in MA not being awarded.)

Sounds like a daft way of making money to me- and what would you do about your business whilst you claim MA?? i know that to keep my business runnning in my absence it costs more than £100 a week.
