Hello. I’m new here and not sure how to word this totally correct or post things properly so I hope this is ok.
im 11 weeks pregnant and very very anxious regarding doing everything right and not putting the baby in danger etc.
Tonight my niece came into our home and after she’d walked over the hall way carpet we noticed she had dog poo on her shoes. I’m a germaphobe and a paniced so I decided to try and mop the carpet! Which sounds silly but made sense in my head to get germs away? I then sprayed over the area she walked with zoflora disinfectant spray. 15 mins later I walked over the carpet in my bare feet without thinking and my feet became wet. I went to the bathroom and washed my feet with soap and hot water but just scared this zoflora or the floor cleaner I mixed with hot water would absorb through the skin and harm the baby? I tried to google it but not much came up other than bleaches and zoflora are safe to use if pregnant etc but nothing on skin contact? Will this be ok? I know I panic quite a bit and plan to say to my midwife about it next week when we see them but until then I thought I’d come here for advice.
hope this is ok. Thanks to everyone in advance.

You will be absolutely fine. Relax.

I think you should get help for your anxiety before your baby is born because it really risks spiralling out of control once you have a newborn baby.

I used disinfectant spray and zoflora throughout all my pregnancies, and got loads on my skin. All was fine.

I would mention your anxiety to your midwife though because this level of concern is something she will be able to help you with.

Yes, please speak to your midwife about your anxiety. They will have heard it all before and will know how to help you.

I am not a doctor or a scientist but I’m confident your baby will be unaffected by this. You got a small amount of a substance (which is safe to use in pregnancy) on your feet. Think logically- this could only possibly affect your baby if it were a highly toxic substance which it absolutely isn’t. You and your baby will be fine, but it’s really important to get help for your anxiety, because this will only be the start of your worries if you allow your anxiety to run rampant. I’m a long-term sufferer of anxiety myself so I understand the importance of getting it in check. Take care OP. 💐

I agree. This is excessive anxiety and it would be wise to get help, otherwise you'll struggle when the baby is born.

Zoflora is safe. If it says safe to use in pregnancy, you don't need to worry. Even if it did contain anything harmful, and that something could be absorbed through the skin, it was brief contact on a small area so there would be no harm.
Please stop googling every time something like this happens. I'm a health & safety professional, I advise on chemical safety, and there's a lot of misinformation out there. Even the accurate stuff needs careful interpretation and you need to know what you're doing. Just trust the product labels. No manufacturer will risk saying something is safe in pregnancy when it isn't. They are extremely cautious.

@WhiteFang @ThankYouStavros @EggBlanket @waterlego
thank you so much for your replies. It’s made me feel a lot better. I think the reassurance from others and for someone to tell me I’m being silly helps a lot and helps me to rationalise it so I appreciate it. I definitely will be saying to my midwife next week about it as I’m quite anxious about food etc too and need to get it all under control. Thank you all for your advice

Unless you drank it I'm fairly confident you & baby will be absolutely fine

Hey, you will be fine- promise.

Maybe do get support to keep your anxiety in check.
I totally get the worry as i was incredibly anxious throughout the pregnancy with my first daughter too..I had a miscarriage before her which didn't help and was googling constantly literally every day a new worry....it was really mentally draining. When she arrived it got worse, felt like I was constantly second guessing everything, panicking and weighing up whether decisions were wrong or right. If I made a mistake I mentally beat myself up for ages after.Didn't help that my DH has anxiety too and turned to me to know what to do as I had lots of childcare experience, which felt like alot of pressure!
We took DD to A&E 8 times in the first year for various minor concerns (including DH getting talcum powder near her face, me accidentally burning a plastic based kettle on the hob and worrying she had breathed in the fumes, and her getting some liquid from a sensory toy in her mouth!) I also wouldn't put her in childcare or barely leave her with anyone as I didn't trust anyone else with her...I even gave up work because of it.

When she was a toddler I got therapy for my anxiety.I am still a fairly cautious and protective parent, but I am no longer paranoid and am rational.

It is natural to be overprotective as a first time mum...there will always be lots of worries, you will always make mistakes (like me the time I forgot to strap DD2 in the carseat, or left DD1 without a nappy on for 2 mins to grab some wipes and she ate poo!) but try to go easy on yourself (and on your little one when they make a mess!) as it will make life much easier and less stressful for you both xx
