Anterior Placenta

Hiya, i was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences with having an anterior placenta. I'm 20 weeks 2 days and barely feel anything, this is my second baby too so it does make me anxious...
My placenta is High anterior confirmed on 20 week scan. Sometimes i feel kicks very low down at the end of the day when i get in bed but can go days without feeling anything.

I had a posterior placenta with my first and didn't have any of these worries.

Can anyone share their experience of when they felt movements consistently with an anterior placenta?

Thank you

I asked the midwife this, because I know I would be anxious if I didn’t feel much! She said not to worry up until 24 weeks if you go days without feeling anything. I felt my first proper kick at 21 weeks exactly, then have felt it everyday since. Before that I had really random fish swimming motions or something pushing down, but it was so all over the place and definitely not regular at all

Thankyou, my midwife asked me at 16 weeks if i had started to feel movements as it's my seconds and it made me panic. I told her my suspicions of having an anterior placenta (this was before it was confirmed on any scan) and she just said okay maybe 20 weeks then.

This didn't reassure me much as i'm 20 weeks now and was expecting more than this. I don't see her again until 25 weeks but i'm trying not to be too anxious about it.

Did they definitely become noticeable kicks towards the end? I'm just worried i won't be able to notice any patterns/decrease in movements at the end of pregnancy.

My last pregnancy I had an anterior placenta. I never could feel strong regular movements and I certainly couldn’t see any of her wriggling about. However I was able to feel decent fluttering and could predict when she would be at her most active, from about 24 weeks onward.
She was my first successful pregnancy, following multiple rounds of fertility treatment, and miscarriages so I told understand the worry and panic.

I was practically 24 weeks before I felt anything with mine. Then realised the sudden urge to pee was because she was kicking my bladder to high heaven! I didn't feel flutters, just suddenly started to feel actual kicks. As you can imagine I was worried sick, especially as it was with my first!

Thank you for sharing!

Its only ever in the evenings i feel anything at all. even then i still question if it is baby moving or not! It's hard not to compare to my first as i felt him all day every day from 18 weeks onwards!

@AlishaLouise the midwife asked me the same and it’s my first, it definitely makes you feel a bit bad almost like there’s something wrong! I knew I had an anterior from my private scan but they told me it was on my right side so to expect movement on the left, it’s now apparently in the middle?🤣 I’m only 22 weeks but they’re 100% noticeable, I can see them through my leggings and my partner can feel them and he’s crap at being patient enough to pay attention 🤣

Thank you, i totally get how it causes anxiety!! I know it's normal and baby has been perfect on every scan but as mums the worry never stops!!

Awh amazing!! I think i'm just a bit too eager to feel baby kicks as it was my favourite part of pregnancy last time!
Since i've started this thread i've felt small kicks low down which always makes u feel silly for worrying🤣

I have an anterior placenta and it's my first. I didn't really feel anything regular until about 23 weeks-ish. Now I'm 32 weeks, obviously feel him regularly but quite pleased his actions are 'padded' by the placenta or think I would feel quite uncomfortable!! Usually just feel him at the sides, bottom or top. Only centrally if he does a really strong kick or punch.

Glitterstars · 27/03/2023 20:33

Hi I had an anterior placenta with my first. Wasn’t great as til the end I could not feel movements very often. I think I was unlucky as midwife said once baby gets bigger it wouldn’t make a difference. There were a fair few trips to triage to get checked towards the end . Hopefully for you once baby gets bigger it won’t make a difference

PurBal · 27/03/2023 20:39

I’m 29 weeks. Low anterior. Movements are “dull”. It’s also my second. This baby is a lot more active than DC1 so it could easily be personality of your baby.

mamalauren · 03/07/2023 16:25

I'm 22+3 with an anterior placenta and I echo the above comment saying movements are dull. Almost like a single bubble at a time across the left and right of my lower belly area but never really in the middle.

Joppi · 03/07/2023 21:30

I have anterior placenta (and first time mum) and started feeling small movements from about 22 weeks

Morph22010 · 03/07/2023 21:33

I had this and I didn’t really feel any movements at all through the whole pregnancy except maybe the odd flutter. My first and only child so nothing to compare to either but I certainly wouldn’t have know if movements had reduced
