Dieting during pregnancy

Hi all

I just had some routine bloods taken (I’m 10 weeks) and was ashamed to discover that I’ve gained just over 1.5 stone since before I was pregnant with my last baby.

I knew I’d gained but tbh I didn’t realise to what extent and now I feel desperate to get down to a healthier weight.

Am I OK to diet during pregnancy provided it is not too restrictive? I would get all the appropriate nutrients and maintain a moderate calorie deficit only.

I can’t bear the thought of gaining a lot more weight during this pregnancy - I currently weigh more now than I did full term with my first pregnancy three years ago!

thank you x

Great news that you are motivated to make some healthier choices OP.
What are some simple habits you could change to try and lose weight slowly and in a healthy way?
What parts of your current diet are your current vulnerabilities? Is it meals/snacks/portion sizes/drinks?
My advice would be try not to change too much in one go but make some small changes that you feel will be more sustainable.

I ate very carefully and healthily with my 2nd pregnancy as I'd put on 5st in the first, 3st net after she was born. It worked well and a week after DD2 was born I weighed the same as before she was conceived. So I was happy with that.
I think there would be nothing wrong with ensuring you don't over eat, but I don't think you should go on 1,000 calories a day and really restrict yourself to that extent.

Hi op!

I feel your pain, mainly because to get me through the first trimester - eating was the only thing that made me feel less sicky!! And it wasn’t ever healthy snacks either 😂

Just make sure you’re eating a well balanced diet. Don’t restrict yourself, get your 5 fruits / veg in a day and snack on “healthier” snacks. As well as doing lots of walking if you can?

Technically you don’t need anymore calories than you usually would in pregnancy - until your third trimester when it’s around 200 cals extra a day? I think I read somewhere anyway!! X
