Sorry if this is in the wrong section - I was looking for a 'preparing for birth' section.

Can anyone recommend a good (fairly priced) nursing chair. Most I see are £500 +!

Thank you

We also had this problem and bought an Ikea Poang (the rocking chair version). It's great! Super comfy. The only drawback we found is that the arms aren't padded, so we tend to prop a pillow underneath whichever arm baby is held in.

People will say you don’t need one, so I didn’t bother. However I used one in a nursing room recently and it was a complete game changer. So comfy and baby loved rocking. However, she is now nearly too big so she spilled off the side, so I feel we missed our chance.

hope you find a good one!

Buy a second hand one. That's what we did. It was about £50. Gave it a clean. Sold it for the same price about 18 months later

Babybaby66 · 31/03/2023 14:35

I bought one on Facebook marketplace. Was £40 and seems comfortable (not due until June so haven’t used it yet). It’s a glider one with a footstool that moves as well…

they were so expensive in baby shops!!

I also had a poang. We got the slightly bouncy version, not the rocker one.

Another vote for the poang - you can often pick them up second hand on marketplace.

jamsandwich1 · 31/03/2023 19:39

i just got the ikea poang, it’s fab and still have it in their room 4.5 years down the line. I wasn’t convinced there was any need to buy a specific nursing chair

AlltheFs · 31/03/2023 19:42

I rarely used one, I fed in bed as we coslept and I took any opportunity to feed lying down while watching TV. I recommend that over anything else!
We do have a Poang in DD’s room but I only used it when she was 15 months+ for feeds. They are good though.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 31/03/2023 19:48

Another vote for Poang too, we got the footstool to match and it was SO comfortable and is now a reading chair!

I’m using mine as I type this - it’s all creaky now as this is my second baby, I’ve done feeding and contact naps in it for about 2 years, heavy daily use. It’s in the living room, positioned for strategic binge watching whilst baby feeds and naps, with a side table for tv remote, mobile phone, water. Snacks optional.

Anyway, mine cost about £200 in 2019, bought from Mothercare. It’s a rocking chair + rocking foot stool. Wooden frame and button-up cushioning. Highly recommend the rocking footstool - it’s a must for me.

I have this one
Serenity Nursing Glider Maternity Chair with Footstool … (Natural) amzn.eu/d/iD2vBbd

I used it for every night feed when baby was small, I loved it, so comfy and it has side pockets for my phone/snacks

I still use it now to sit and read books with my boy and he is 19 months

Carbis · 31/03/2023 19:55

I’d definitely recommend something with a high back, maybe even a wing back. I have a rocker that is lovely and comfy otherwise but has no head support and have regretted that decision. Somewhere to rest my head in the small hours would have been lovely.

Dolphinnoises · 31/03/2023 19:57

I found a Dutailier on eBay for £120. Two kids later I sold it for £120!

3ormorecharacters · 31/03/2023 19:57

Like a pp I got mine second hand off FB marketplace. It cost £40 and I'll probably be able to sell it for not much less. It's in the nursery and has had a lot of use. I've sat in it overnight more than once! It's one of the gliding ones with a footstool. I recommend having the footstool too.

BridieConvert · 31/03/2023 21:59

Like some PPs I got mine off of Facebook marketplace, think I paid £80. Knew I wouldn't use it enough to justify paying the price for a new one!

lcw23 · 14/01/2024 20:18

Appreciate this is a slightly old post, but wanted to share our experience of the Poang for any other readers. My husband and I hate it. As someone else has said, it doesn't have padded arms. It's fine using a pillow when they're small, but as soon as they're older, and thrashing around a lot more, they're pretty sharp ages for your baby to hit their head on.
I would suggest avoiding at all costs if you have a small nursery- it's so big! We have the rocking chair version, and are constantly walking into the sharp bottom of it with our ankles.

It is pretty comfy, I'll give it that- but the above points have caused much frustration to my sleep deprived family.
