NIPT harmony test result different to NHS screening results?!

Hi all
hoping you can help, first timer over here with a completely unplanned pregnancy and absolutely terrified lol.
I wondered if you experienced mamas could give me some advice though, I had the NIPT harmony test done at 10 weeks and the results came back 1/10,000 for everything. I then had my 12 week scan on the NHS (I was actually 13 weeks) and they did my screening bloods then too and these results have come back different from the harmony result. Everything is 1/10,000 except Downs Syndrome which was 1/1,018.
should I be concerned about this differing change? Seems very strange, I had eaten lightly before both bloods but have no idea why the change might be. I have been quite stressed (not at time of conception necessarily), but more so since realising I was pregnant because of external factors and am concerned that I might have done something wrong. To be clear if my baby is born with downs I will still give it its fullest life and am supportive. Please be kind.

The NIPT is much more sensitive and reliable than the NHS combined test. I wouldn't have any worries with your result. Mine came back NIPT 1/10,000 and NHS 1/240

The nhs test is based on the measurement of fluid behind babies neck, the blood tests and mothers age to give a result. So I presume that’s why it’s different then the private blood tests

Hi @Np1988 , the NIPT will give a maximum of less than 1:10000 likelihood. Less than 1:10000 could in fact be 1:100000000 but they aren’t that specific. It is highly accurate and much more accurate than the NHS screening. Basically you got the best result possible and are very low risk but the results will never say absolutely not.

Most people do the NHS test first and don’t progress to the NIPT unless it’s a high likelihood. Your NHS result was very low likelihood aswell.

Hope that makes sense and congratulations on the great result.

The nipt test takes fragments of the babies dna from your blood. The nhs test results are from mothers age, weight , smoking status, NT measurement. Although still screening, the NIPT is much more reliable and accurate

Thank you so much all, for your reassurance. This means more than you’ll ever know. ♥️

My NHS test was 1/250 and my harmony test 1/10000.
