Hi can someone tell me what this means trying to work out how skint I am going to be lol

Employees who have at least 26 weeks continuous service at the beginning of the 15th week before their expected week of childbirth are now entitled to up to 39 weeks maternity pay. The first 6 weeks are paid at nine-tenths of their weekly pay, offset against any payments of Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) or Maternity Allowance (MA) they may be entitled to. The next 12 weeks are paid at half their normal weekly pay, plus any payments of SMP or MA they may be entitled to, subject to the total not exceeding their normal full pay. The remaining 21 weeks are paid at the SMP rate. From April 2007 this has been set at the lower of £112.75 or 90% of the employee’s normal weekly earnings per week. Employees who do not have the required service may be entitled to MA or SMP.

Are you a teacher, by any chance? Smile

First 6 weeks - 90% of pay
Next 12 weeks - half pay plus 112 a week (assuming you earn more than about 12k a year)
Next 21 weeks - 112 a week.
Final 3 months -0.

It's a pretty good package, imo.

This is outdated as the smp figure is 172 as of April 23, use the website maternity.money to help but this is identical to the teaching one

Hello,

so I am currently on maternity leave and due back at work on 3rd December ‘23. However I have just found out I am pregnant again with my 3rd. I am worrying that when little one is due in early July 2024 that I won’t be entitled to anything from work maternity money wise etc or I could loose my job because of having another baby.

so background, I had my first May 2021 and had maternity from May 2021-Feb 2022. My second maternity was December 2022-2023 (I took a year with 3M unpaid) and this maternity would be from around July 2024-july2025. However obviously I have been and will be back at work between the maternity times start dates.

I work in a supermarket as a supervisor and I’m worrying they could let me go for having babies and I’m worrying to even tell my manager!!

Any help is greatly appreciated!
ps. 3 so close I am crazy!!

@Bethleyland1994 they can't let you go for going on maternity leave again, assuming you go back to work this year as planned.

In terms of pay you should also qualify for paid maternity leave assuming you are back at work at least 24 weeks before your next due date. Assuming you go back in December this year, and aren't due again until July you'll be ok. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
