Cholestatis in pregnancy - birth brought forward?

Hi all,
Have been diagnosed with cholestatis today at 36+3 and am going back for more testing and to find out the plan tomorrow. I just wondered whether anyone else who had it were advised to have baby sooner or whether they’re more relaxed about that now? I don’t know my levels just yet but google seems to say under 100 is fairly low risk so I’m wondering if they’ll just monitor or still advise bringing my date forward.

I already have a c section booked in at 39+2 due to a preexisting heart condition.

Also any tips on helping the itching are appreciated!

I had this. Delivered at 34 weeks. Not after 38 is the normal.
The itching was awful. I didn't find anything that helped but was given camomile lotion to try.

I should mention that my delivery started spontaneously, no medical informal. I also had pre eclampsia as well which would explain the early labour.

I had cholestasis too for my DD now 7. At that point recommendation was to be induced - so I had her at 38 weeks, my levels were quite high though and I was diagnosed quite a bit earlier on (not sure if that makes a difference).
In terms of the itching the only thing I found help was cold, so I bought huge amounts of ice packs, I would sleep with ice packs on my hands and feet, feet in cold water whilst sitting watching TV. I would take anti histamine at night, did bugger all to help the itching but consultant recommended it to help me sleep a little better.
Once the medication kicked in and my levels dropped a bit that helped a little but frankly it was pretty horrid and I feel for you.

I had a c-section booked for 39+2 with DC2, but they rebooked it for 38 weeks when I was diagnosed with cholestasis (at 33 weeks).

I ended up having a section at 37 weeks as my liver started to really struggle and I had reduced movements. DD was born perfectly healthy.

I had this too. I highly recommend looking up ICP Support, they are a brilliant charity with a very good website. They also have a very well moderated fb group and respond to emails really thoroughly. The website has really good evidence based information I was induced at 38w but not long after they released some new evidence and now it all depends on how high your levels are.

Hope you're not too itchy, it's really horrible.

I had this with my now 15 year old. I had a c-section at 37 weeks because of the condition and she was breech.

Thanks all, appreciate the advice. Going to see what they say tomorrow but starting to feel like an earlier delivery would be sensible considering various other health issues I have going on now. Feeling quite anxious about it all really.

Definitely contact ICP Support - they have a useful website and an active Facebook group full of help and advice. I had ICP with both my pregnancies and was induced at 36+5w with the first and 38w with the second

Thanks so much, I’ve asked to join the fb group as that sounds great. Genuinely don’t think I can manage another three weeks if this itching so you guys who managed longer are amazing in my eyes!
