Reduced movements 24+5

Just looking for some advice.. I’m 24 weeks & 5 days with my first pregnancy. I have an anterior placenta so felt kicks super late. Probably about 22 weeks and was unsure at first if they were kicks or not as they felt super strong and less like flutters which is what I expected. I was having an internal exam at 23+1 when I felt a kick confirmed by my consultant.

On wednesday evening I went to triage as I hadn’t felt kicks all day, everything was ok. The day after kicks were really strong again, and on Friday up until the afternoon, but Friday evening nothing and yesterday I barely felt any (approx 5 small flutters across the whole day) and nothing again this morning (I had been up for about 4 hours) I didn’t know whether to ring but I thought it had been over the course of 2 days and the fact they were weak I would ring for advice. Of course they told me to go in, but when I arrived I felt the midwife was cold and questioned why I was there.

I realise I can’t go in every few days for the next few months and I am still early - but I don’t want to leave it and something happen and I regret not phoning sooner. How long should I leave it before phoning for advice as she has now put me off wanting to phone!

I would just give triage a call and ask for their advice. In my experience, they would always rather see you and check.

My maternity unit don't monitor movements until 28 weeks so maybe why she had a bit of an attitude on her. But that doesn't help give you peace of mind! Your anterior placenta won't help, I also have one. Give them one final ring and when your there you could discuss with them that you are concerned and what should you do the next time you feel this way if they aren't wanting you phoning every few days xx

Yes she did say that, I was never told that though but the first thing I said on the phone was I was just asking for advice. I guess they don’t want to be the blame of not telling someone to come in if something is wrong!

Its one more thing to worry about! And I can’t tell the difference between my gut instinct and anxiety since being pregnant, I start to worry and think its my gut!! Thank you for your advice though! Xx

If you're ever, ever unsure always get checked. It can feel like you're a nuisance, but that is better than discovering something is wrong.
We sadly lost our first son at 33 weeks (not related to reduced movements), but with our rainbow pregnancy I was so anxious about her movements. I became very familiar with her pattern, sometimes it was less than an hour I hadn't felt her move and I'd ring triage (I know that's extreme though - that was pregnancy after loss anxiety). From 23 - 37 weeks I went in for checking way over 10 times because I was worried. Sometimes I felt like a pain, but I felt a responsibility as her mum to get checked as sadly I know people who have lost babies and the sign was reduced movements.
Good luck OP x

I’m 27+1 today and have went to the hospital for reduced movements twice. For the last few days the movement has been very different and nearly constant sometimes but before last week I still had quiet days or non routine movements. Always always get it checked out, at the end of the day it’s your baby and body x

Please don’t let one midwife having a bad day scare you from calling if you’re worried!

I went at 16 weeks with my second pregnancy! They could only listen with the Doppler but it was reassuring to hear her heart beating

I had anterior placenta with my first and I went with reduced movements a fair few times. Only went the once with my second and it was posterior. It really does make it harder to feel 😔
